Hi,

Anyone using the Explora Ultra decoder? How is it with DSTV content specifically ? (I have other devices for apps)
Any software issues?

With two 4K channels coming for the World Cup (and it eventually expanding to other content, like how the first HD channel was launched with the 2008 Olympics) I am looking at upgrading in the next couple months. Already have the Explora 3A and smart LNB so it would be basically a straight swop and phone call for a technician.

Was wondering the same about 4k. But they only mention it supports 4k streaming. So dunno

Speaking of

If you have internet why do you need a physical decoder at al;l?

Just stream from the DSTV online service? On your TV or whichever device?

DSTV streaming can be temperamental during popular events due to their servers.
And we'd also be stuck with one stream, which is a problem with 2 TVs in the house.

Plus a lot of our favorite stuff is not on Catch Up and has to be recorded.

We have 2 ultra's and one 3A, no problems to date. 500Mbps fibre, which helps if everyone is watching tv.

If you just wantch to watch Linear TV then the decoder is perfectly fine. Unless you're watching Disney & DSTV Now (You can stream DSTV on Decoder) it lags excessively. Showmax, Netflix also bit slower I guess it's like any other dstv decoder that freezes and slow response time

We have the Explora Ultra and Explora 3A on extraview... tested both on my LG C1 OLED...chalk and cheese!

DSTVNow streaming app looks absolutely crap on LG C1! Live football... your phone will notify of a goal scored before you see it on streaming app

Ultra on the other hand looks sublime!

3A not bad but the Ultra does way better at 4k HDR

Explora Ultra is a beautiful machine. My only issue are the picture resolutions for Showmax and Disney+ (stuck on HD 720p). But either than that, I absolutely have no complaints.

Comparing dstv streaming quality to broadcast quality is like comparing a ferrari to a beetle.

I think the question is more whether an ultra looks better than a regular explora. Ita still not 4k, yet

None of them 4k if we looking at native 4k material but the Ultra has option to set to 4k HDR and it does make a major difference compared to 3A... I'm not disputing the fact that DSTVNow still need to pull up its socks to the major 4k services out there but the Ultra does look way better.... even had the Mi Box S set to 4k and the Ultra still faired much better... The Mi Box S did much better with PLEX... moot point though as Ultra doesn't allow PLEX...
