Hi everyone,

I’m currently banking with Capitec but seriously considering switching my main account to TymeBank/the lower fees are the main attraction
[Basically No Bank Charges Or Very Less]

I’ve accumulated a reasonable amount of savings that I intend to transfer, and I also plan to max out their savings account soon.

That said, I do have some hesitation about after what happened with VBS a few years ago.

For those using TymeBank as their primary bank:

How has your overall experience been?

Security and stability — do you feel confident in the bank long term?

Customer service — without traditional branches (apart from kiosks), is getting assistance difficult if something goes wrong?

I’d appreciate honest feedback before making the decision as it's going to be my only bank account.

Have had no issues with them and it's definitely not another VBS.

I'd probably use it more if they simply had Apple Pay, so primarily I use it for the savings pockets.

No thanks they suck hairy ass.
  1. Spam you to death to take out a loan weekly1771228077283.png
  2. No Apple Pay support after it was promised 4 years ago
  3. Call center has wait times of hours and no bank branches you can just go to for quick help
  4. Goalsave you have to jump through hoops to get 10%. If you have 50k in Bank Zero you'll get a batter rate https://www.bankzero.co.za/rates-and-pricing/ or Capitec 7 day notice account
  5. They don't have a credit card anymore since they killed it off
  6. Others on here using them full time had cards being down or double spend issues when they went down. I've never had my Capitec card go down on me ever in 13 years
  7. Useless rebrand instead of fixing core issues
I could go on and on. Just stick with Capitec and / or Bank Zero

Used them as my daily driver for about 5 years. No complaints with them. Their business accounts are a little useless if you have more than one business owner, but otherwise they provide a pretty solid service. I loooooooooove that you dont have to walk into a bank for them. They go down less often than Standard Bank does.... at least in my experience.

Their card works with Samsung Pay.

How much is Capitec costing you a month that it is a concern?

not heavily relying on my Tyme account, but:

- generally good, best in class fee structure for the most part

- I really don't like the upside-down tier savings structure i.e. you're encouraged to open multiple goal save accounts as each has a low limit and the global limit of R250k is also insanely low

- only used support once, it was beyond pathetic, basically I exceeded my daily tap limit and the response code it started giving to merchants was to confiscate the card and call the police, suspected fraud ... WTAF

- those complaining about Apple Pay or a lack of other new things might need to know Tyme is in the midst of a major migration of its entire tech stack from the legacy ZA stack to the one they've developed over the years in other markets ... new functionality will not come until that migration is complete, this is also why the re-branding to GoTyme is kicking in fyi
