Morning folks...

Currently on a 1Mbps package from mweb and im experiencing line drops every now and then and have narrowed it down to the disgusting attenuation im getting:

Modem Status

Connection Status Connected
Us Rate (Kbps) 512
Ds Rate (Kbps) 1024
US Margin 14
DS Margin 11
Trained Modulation ADSL_G.dmt
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 52
US Line Attenuation 31
Peak Cell Rate 1207 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 4381
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Fast Path
DSL Statistics

Near End F4 Loop Back Count 0
Near End F5 Loop Back Count 0

Now im not willing to drop to 384 as thats where i come from and i have gathered that i am kinda far from my exchange, about 6 km... are there any remedies available?

Your margins look worse than attentuation. Just call telkom, log a fault. Say there's 'noise on the line'.

I agree with this. Talking from experience I have a 4Mb line and can only sync at 3Mbps. My attenuation usually starts increasing from 46 dB's for Attenuation up to 50db every couple of months. I then have to log a call with Telkom (I get the whole thing that if they come out and it is not their fault they will charge me blah blah blah). I can usually tell when they are going to phone me to come out the following day because my attenuation drops back down to 46dB and so when they call I just tell them whatever they did at the exchange has corrected the fault. You probably have a noisy line

You could try different modems. They won't all deal with the noise in the same way. But it's a long shot.
