So I find this B&B on www.sa-venues.com, contact him and he's got a room available at R420.00 - do the transfer ABSA > ABSA which is successful. All seems great - until I get this from him the following day :

I just phoned ABSA bank to find out why your deposit hasn't come through, they told me that although it says payment was successful, the monies will be rejected and returned back to your account, as you cant use your credit card account online. You would have to go into the bank and do the transaction in order for it to be successful. Please could you try rectify this.

I gather a possible scam instantly and contact ABSA who tells me 100% the transaction has gone through ; and the owner tells me 100% that is was the correct account number - but still nothing. This was Friday evening and there isn't much help ABSA offers on the weekend - possibly why they're not the best bank.

1) Anyone here able to see if the amount has reflected for certain in his account? I could at one stage - but don't know anyone that can
2) The amount is too low for legal action, so I'll take the knock. Apart from posting details and warnings everywhere - anything else I can do? I need to get my R420.00 worth
3) How possible is it that money goes missing? I'm guessing slim to none?

I'm not not going to mention a name as yet - incase by some chance there *was* an error. I'll repost a new thread on Monday evening if it hasn't been cleared.

Just an update :

ABSA contacted me to say it was transferred successfully into his account - but he needs to give permission for them to reverse the transaction.

They contacted him a few minutes later and he said 'you could be anyone calling me and telling me it was successful. I'll go into the branch to get my balance and see with my own eyes. Call me in 2 days'.

WTF? You can't run a business like that if he's being legit ... internet banking, call centre, cellphone banking etc.

Sounds rather dodgy to me, if I was you I'd have a backup plan

I made a backup plan the Friday night I picked up he was dodgy

Got a place in Umghlanga while I await to see the outcome of this.

Should I not get a refund by Thursday (a week after initially made), I'm going to the off topc/general discussions of the forums I'm on (5), as well as hellopeter, SA Venues and a few other sites to list my experience. I see his place is also 'AA Quality Assured accomodation' - which means they'll get a mail as well ... and I'm pretty sure there must be a B&B body or something? If so, they'll get a mail as well.

It may be childish to some, but I'll get my R420.00 worth ... and doing that will make me feel alot better.
