okay, i have a problem with my age of empires III, i made a thread about it before but now the problem has changed so i think it requires a new thread.

when i play AOE III my PC gets a blank screen, where the monitor says either:

1. 'out of range 39hz/80hz'
2. 'Power Saving Mode'
3. My PC gets blue lines up and down the screen (http://img15.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image004u.jpg)

I was told that my power supply (300W) is not sufficient enough for my PC speccs, so i bought a 600W power supply, still the same problem, 2 weeks ago my PC was hit by lightning so i have got a brand new motherboard, some said my PC was overheating, so i have a fan blowing on full into the open side, same problem. My video Card is a Radeon Sapphire 4870 HD, so i dont think there is an issue there, i have installed the patch that fixes the graphics issues, alas, still same problem,

something i noticed today that was weird, instead of following the usual process that i do when testing to C if it works (tutorials -> Basics) i went to skirmish -> start game, and it played fine for about 10 minutes, then when i resigned and returned to the menu, it went into power saving mode,,, very confusing and frustrating

(speccs wise, my PC can play GTA IV and WoW WOTLK on full graphics)

so now i ask, what is the issue here, and how do i fix it,

as i posted in the first post, my graphics card is a Radeon sapphire 4870 HD, more than capable of running the game,

the games' requirements are well met by my pc...

EDIT: If i quickly play a skirmish match, the game will play perfectly fine, it's if i leave it lingering on the menu for too long, or play the tutorial,,, very weird

It seems like the monitor refresh rate is running beyond the monitors range. Try override the refresh rate setting to something lower.

- Right click anywhere on your desktop
- Left click on the ATI Catalyst™Control Center option
- Click the View Menu Option
- Select the Advanced View Option (notice the list of items under Graphics Settings)
- In the 3D Refresh Rate Override selection box, pick another refresh rate in the list or select the Same As Desktop option
- Click Apply

As genetic mentioned, try setting your refresh-rate a bit lower. Try setting it to 60Hz or 59Hz and try again.
