Hi

We have wireless internet at home via high tower site. The issue is we want to share between two buildings so the following is happening.

Signal received from Wireless internet site then gets fed to D-link AP that gets distributed via wifi network. The issue is. The signal at the adjacent house is not good enough and we are unable to run a cable. We have a Pico m2 AP at the other house mounted outside to repeat the signal. If i connect to the Pico M2 consol via cable and set the unit up i am able to see that the unit is receiving signal from the d-link AP but i am not receiving any data through the unit. IE I cannot connect the users in my house to wifi as they connect but they cannot access anything (internet).

Does anybody know how we can set the two units up so that everything works? I think it is something very small but can’t seem to figure it out.

Hi and welcome to myBB!

From the sound of things, your problem is most likely just IP address/subnet related.

Could you perhaps draw up a sketch in paint/word/visio on how the whole network looks, as well as the IP addresses of the routers/AP's? Please include the kind of links between the different routers.
This way I'll understand more from your situation and then I can possibly tell you what exactly your problem is.
You can upload the image to www.imagehost.co.za (which requires international cap though).

Lastly, not all AP's supports repeater modes. To be honest, only a select few support it.
WDS provides a kind of repeater mode, but WDS only works if the routers are from the same brand.

Awesome sketch!

Your problem is most likely that the WDS between the D-Link and Pico m2 is incompatible.
WDS isn't a set standard, so each brand implements their own version of it, which is why it is ALWAYS recommended to use the same brand AP when using WDS.

I'm not sure what the best way to proceed would be, but I'd suggest that you get another AP, either D-Link or Pico m2.
Then instead of using WDS, you simply set the current D-Link AP to just AP mode (no WDS) and then install an AP at the other end that is just a client.
You then connect that AP (client) with a LAN cable to another AP so that you can have laptops/phones connecting to it via wireless.

Pada's got a good alternative listed

When you ping and tracert to 192.168.1.50 from the other building are you getting any responses?

Hi

The issue is i cannot connect with cable it has to be wifi. When i connect via cable to the Pico i can pick up the d-link ap through the web consol but when i connect to the d-link i cannot pick up the Pico. Wont it work if i set the d-link ap to ap repeater and then the pico as station?

You misunderstood the modified drawing,he suggested a cabled connection to the client AP from a seperate AP

Like PsyWulf said, my suggestion would've been like follow:

Code:
D-Link AP <~~~~~ WiFi to other building ~~~~~> AP client (eg. another D-Link) <- LAN cable -> Pico M2 AP <~ WiFi ~> Wireless Devices

<~ WiFi ~> WiFi clients in the same building

Hi

I though i missed something. Will have a look over the weekend and see what i can come up with. Thanks for the feedback will keep posted.

I eventually decided it will be my only option as to use the pico on my side as the receiver. I hooked it up and did the config and I can now say it works. Not what I wanted but at least I have a better connection.
