Does anyone use OpenOffice? I don't really do any fancy stuff with my Word or Excell documents and I don't use Powerpoint etc....

Will OpenOffice be a good enough replacement for MS Office for basic use? I don't see the need to pay that much money for MS Office if I hardly use all the features.

LibreOffice is IMHO a better product, more regular updates and seems to be the more stable.
(its basically the same as OpenOffice, and was forked from the original OpenOffice)
I use it regularly.

Thanks. I will have a look at it. I've done a Clean Windows 10 install yesterday and just want to install the neccessary apps.

Certain functions in Excel might not work, also I think Office online is free.

WRT spreadsheets I've found WPS is about the best alternative. Only downside is the free version is not that, but a trial in disguise..easily remedied though.

Can both of them "Save-As" or "Export" a docx or xlsx file to Jpg and PDF?

I'm not sure about Jpg but it can handle the other formats. It can open and save docx + xlsx files.

I use it and even develop it lol. It should be ok - I am so used to it that I find Excel to be a mission to use - but if you are using it to read complex MS Office documents you might find differences in fonts/layout/macros/etc. It costs you nothing to try it for a while and see how it goes. If you find problems, please let me know, as one of its developers maybe it's something I can fix.

PDF it will do yes but I've turned to Google Docs for assignments as I can retrieve them from the cloud in the event off a power failure. Google docs autosaves after every key stroke.

Have look at your Windows 10 Store for the FREE - Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and Powerpoint Mobile Apps. They are touch friendly and operated like the full package.

And it works perfectly on PC as well, even tough it is actually for Windows Phones and Tablets?

Mmm, Read only. Can't edit or create files with that. And I'm not paying R75 per month for Office 365.

Why not using Microsoft Office Online? Completely free.

https://office.live.com

Or if you really want a change, Google Docs.

For that matter even Apple's iWork suite is free online. (not sure if you need to own the Apps with your Apple ID first).
