Apartment Networking

I live in an apartment and have several friends, in my flat and others
across the street in an adjacent flat. We all want to network wirelessly.
Can this be done, if so how? What would I need. How reliable would the network be considering the interference in an urban area. Please help.

Depending on the range you'd want at least one centralised wireless access point and a bunch of wireless network cards. If the range was too great for that additional wireless access points might be required. Make sure the WAP's support WDS
