This was discussed earlier, but I'm not hitting it in the search. Either ways, I downloaded the Aperture trial, but when installing it it complains that my complains about my computer spec. According to the website you lead at least an Intel, G5 or "15- or 17-inch PowerBook G4 with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4 processor." Is it really narrowing this down to PowerBook only for G4 Macs? Mine is a 1.33GHz G4 Mini - surely if the PowerBook can handle this, the mini should too?

Is anyone else running it on a G4 other than the PowerBook?

The difference between the powerbook g4 and the your mini might be the graphics card. Just had a look and my PB has a 128mb graphics card - what does the mini have? 32mb?

yeah, but surely it's all 2D? 32mb should be plenty for that. Unless my understanding of video memory usage is outdated.

Cool, I'll give that a try tonight.

I guess they also take into account the 4200rpm discs the Minis come with. Replacing that with a 7200rpm unit breathed new life into mine...

The app is heavy on resources especially when rendering when I usually see both cores maxed out.

Yeah - but when you spend as much time in Aperture as I do it makes you wish for a faster machine. :o

My Mac is still just something to scratch an itch. Or multiple itches. I really like it for my personal desktop, but as far as making my living goes, a Linux box does everything I need...

I cant really consider Linux as a viable alternative at least until there are Photoshop/Illustrator/Quark ports. :o

One day I'll work in some creative field again and have justification for high-end Apple kit. But right now I manage a bunch of mostly Linux (and some Solaris and BSD) servers, and running an OS that closely resembles the machines I work on daily (it's all remote admin) makes sense.
