Anyone know of a app that allows a phone to act as a bluetooth audio receiver?

I'm trying to test turning a speaker into a bluetooth speaker - but don't want to buy a bluetooth adapter before I can confirm its going to work.

I basically want to use a old cellphone to receive audio from google home - and then output it via the 3.5mm jack to a speaker.

You mean a Bluetooth Audio Sink, or Bluetooth A2DP Sink?
No, I don't think Android has support for A2DP Sinking, even if it were there, you need to route the audio as well.
Which means a custom ROM, and BlueZ as Bluetooth Stack.

Yonks ago I made a Raspberry Pi Audio sink. worked well.
I am sure you can achieve the same with a Pi3?

I would like the same. My receiver does not have bluetooth. Although when i play Youtube through my PS4 i can control it remotely from my phone.
But i would like to have a bluetooth receiver with optic or hdmi into the receiver.

Something like this???

What part of the audio chain do you want to test/confirm? Google Home devices definitely transmit via BT so the only question should be whether the proposed BT receiver has sufficient output to drive the speaker satisfactorily.

Quality of the sound, and whether it'll work.

I have a Polk Audio F/X wirelsss surround speaker - its been working fine for its purpose as rear channels in my home theater system - but I recently replaced the cloth couch with a leather one, and now I'm experience the dropping audio that the speaker is plagued with, I've moved the transmitter closer, but - still experiencing it.

So - instead of selling the speaker - I'm hoping to repurpose it.

Are you going to use the speaker elsewhere or are you trying to get it working properly in the current setup?

I don't see any reason why a BT adapter won't work for this - just be aware that some of the newer adapters have a power saving function whereby they drop the connection after a short period of no audio transmission ( anything around 20 seconds or less) and this can result in an audible 'click' through to the speakers, which I find particularly annoying. Also, check how the adapter is switched/powered since many of these devices have a battery backup that results in you having to switch the adapter on individually every time you want to use it, which may not be desirable.

I don't think that it is an android issue, as my Samsung TV is able to stream sound via bluetooth to my phone using the SmartThings app. The Samsung SmartThings app works with Google home, but I am not sure if you need a Samsung phone to install it or if other devices can stream through the app.

The issue is the speaker - I want to make sure I don't experience the same problem I currently do in the home theater environment.

Sell the cellphone and use the money to buy a proper Bluetooth receiver.

Then keep the considerable change.
