Apparently squirrels destrpy overhead phone wires!

While chatting with a Telkom techie who handles the Southern Suburbs in Cape Town, he mentioned that they have a huge problem with squirrels damaging the overhead cables, exacerbated by an increase in the squirrel population

First time I heard of this.

Maybe squirrels is a pseudonym for cable thieves?

Maybe that excuse isn't working well enough any more so they came up with this one now.

From biting the cable or hanging on them? If the latter I smell BS as we have vervet monkeys that weigh a considerable amount more 'monkey barring' across my phone cable all the time with no issues.
