This (unedited) email was sent to the Department of Communications yesterday:

I am a male of 21 years old. I am residing in the place called impendle in KwaZulu-Natal province.
Impendle is facing a huge challenge in terms of 3G coverage or data connectivity since there was not upgrade that was done when all the mobile networkers were upgrading from 2G to 3G. The second challenge that the community is facing is that on some part of the area e.g. word1 they cannot even get television signal at their home so they have to buy dstv to watch SABC1 and other basic television channels.
Since department of communication (doc) is the one how is responsible for our broadband and communication. I even picked up that department of communication is aware of the digital divide and they are closing the gap. So request doc to attend our communication challenges and help us to keep our community updated in terms of what is happening around South Africa and the rest of the world.
I will be happy if your department takes my request to your highest consideration. And please do hesitate to call me for father explanation and clarity since I can be reached on the following number xxxxxxx.
thank you kind regads

I hope it reaches the Minister's desk - and her heart.

Why not speak to your network provider? MTN, Cell-C, Vodacom, 8ta?
I suppose that will depend on how many people are effected by the lack of connectivity.

Why not try speaking to all the networks, maybe they can do something...

Good luck lack of signal / communication is terrible.

How embarrassing.

Why embarrassing? English obviously isn't his(?) mother tongue and I bet he speaks better English than you do Zulu.
I say well done for trying to get the doc's attention with regards to lack of broadband in a small rural municipality.

1. Zulu je oficiálnym jazykom. He'sa voľný zapisovať do departemente Zulu. Prečo mu tak nerobí?
2. ズールー語が公用語です。彼は、ズールー族の部門への書き込みは無料です。なぜ彼はしないか?
3. It is not the job of government to provide these services. Appealing to government for this undermines the social and economic order, subverts productive enterprises, and cedes power to the State that is should not have.

Well we'll just have to disagree there. I think it is the governments job to ensure the didital divide is closed.
Obviously, it's not the governments job to provide 3G broadband, but it IS the governments job to ensure it happens.

The minister doesn't care, she wants Telkom to keep screwing the public so sorry for you would be my answer.

I agree .I know that area traveled through there many times to the berg .

As I said above, he should have written in Zulu. It's an official language. If it's his mother tongue he should use it rather than mangle another.

Contact Jannie or the Cell C rep they might be able to help you

Bullschit! You wan't the government to provide services which should be relegated to the private sector. You wan't other people to pay for services you receive (subsidised). If this fscked up government had any common sense they would scrap all & any regulations and allow the fittest to provide services. The only way you can ensure proper service is in a free market system where every tom, dick & harry can contest for your money. We should not even have a government but if we have to go that way we should ensure they stay as small as possible and create an environment for business to flourish. So in other words they should break down all laws, restrictions and whatever else for business to flourish. Only then will we get decent telecoms/data service in this country. You cannot artificially protect a market by giving some entities preferential treatment. Nature has a way of establishing a balance.

Open up the market and things will flourish, granted you will have a lot of mushrooms initially but eventually things will settle down and the fittest will survive. In order to be fit you have to compete in order to turn a profit.

All this socialism bullschit makes me sick and does no one any favours.

Amen.

Seriously ponder  you quote my post but leave out the part where I said Obviously, it's not the governments job to provide 3G broadband, and then go on a whole rant about how it's not the governments job to provide services :wtf: if you want to argue with yourself leave me out of it! Or better still, go to the thread where everyone is talking about how wonderful Helen Zille is for promising high speed broadband to Cape Town and complain about socialist tendencies over there, where the provincial government has actually promised to provide broadband

You can't blame bad TV signal if you live in a rural hilly area. Satellite is an alternative.

Digital TV transmission will improve reception and migration should happen by next year from analogue to digital.

If you want 3G tower then get as many signatures as you can and take it to a cellphone operator.
