Apple Airport Express

Just wondering how many people here use the Apple Airport Express ... I'm sure I have seem a couple of posts earlier about them. The thing is, mine has died. No lights, nothing but a faint smell of dead electronics. Obviously happened outside of the warranty period. A search on google seems to indicate that the APX dying after about a year seems to be the norm? Has anyone had a similar experience? Just seems a bit sad for a R1000+ product.

Had one pop not long ago - power surge I think. Same faint smell though and it was at least a couple years old. Didnt stop me from getting another one, two actually come to think about it.

Power surge is what I thought, but according to http://www.hardmac.com/news/2006-10-20/#6054 it doesn't seem isolated. Somewhere it was mentioned about some capacitor not being quite up to spec given the high temperature due to the enclosed case. Also possibly made worse when operating of 220/240V. Have to look at my browser history to find the source ... Maybe the newer APX will use better components? Who knows.
