Apple getting ludicrous over iPhone

They want to prevent people from buying bunches of them, and then selling the unlocked iphones to people. So limiting people from buying more than two, and forcing them to buy by credit card, enables them to potentially track iphones that are identified as unlocked.

Sure... but you know a company is in another picture when they give up the opportunity to sell their products for their ideals.

one of the comments LOL
CUPERTINO - Apple announced today that it would no longer be accepting purchase requests for the iPhone. "We feel the iPhone is too good for regular humans," says the Apple spokesperson. "To protect our brand image, we have decided to stop selling our product altogether to maintain a level of exclusivity unattainable by any other product currently on the market."

The spokesperson also announced they would continue advertising in order to maintain the feel of unattainability.

Aah - I see - the same reason they will never get more than 2% of the market share of PC's out there...
And it doesn't help their profits AFAIK.

But seriously, this must be a hoax, or an excuse for lack of commitment to the product range.

2% of the market share of PCs?

afaik, apple has consistently been climbing of late, and are at closer to 4% worldwide and somewhere in the region of 8 or 9% in the states...

I think its a weird move, but its definitely not about ideals but about bottom line. Apple make a large chunk of money off of iPhones that are used on AT&T's network.

That depends on their aim in life, but hey, I'm not against tech being exclusive in general, but they will lose in the end to the giants... it always happens that way... and personally, I would prefer that Apple and M$ traded places in terms of numbers.
Like who? Dell? ;)

Like who? Dell? ;)

Referring to the general IBM PC market and more specifically M$ - I know there isn't another manufacturer dealing in Apple's space, but they can so easily go from pop to extinct like they nearly did not long ago...
it can happen again.

Dell is simply yacm (yet another clone manufacturer)

That's prolly their idea all along...
it's become and iCon (sic)

It would make sense to me that the iPhone should be available to every serf and his grandma, then, once everyone has one, a latent hypnosis program could activate, enrapturing the world to the whims and servitude of Steve Job.
