Apple halves App Store fees for most developers

Apple Inc. is cutting by half the fees charged to most developers who sell software and services on the App Store, marking the biggest change to the store’s revenue structure since the iPhone maker launched the service in 2008. That wasn’t enough for some developers. [Bloomberg]

Free market and monopolies are interesting.

Does the article mention that Apple increased the price bands in most regions?

This is still ****. They are giving the lower earning developers a bigger cut and the big earners are told Apple are taking 30% of whatever they are charging?

So both ways still a big screw you to the paying customer, unless the lower earning devs pass the savings on by dropping prices.

So, this change directly affects me. I can tell you its very much welcomed. Its got nothing to do with the end user. Savings won't be passed on to you, in 99% of the cases.

Not sure how you figure this screws the "Paying customer" - but I get it, its fun to hate on Apple.

Remember when that ecommerce company we worked for increased its commission on products and the sellers flipped out with petitions and threats about how their lives are being ruined and how the buyers will end up footing the bill for the sins of the out of touch communist management of the company?

Same thing. Just angry talk.

I bet if that company half its commission; some would have also complained.
