Apple hates Pre ...

True bwana, but a bit childish imo. If I was Apple I would have used it to my advantage in the media.

Apple has always protected itunes why change now?

With Pre running on iTunes won't the iTunes Music Store gain Pre customers? If so, that's one money making reason to allow it.

Even tho I've got a Macbook and an iPhone, Apple's policy and business I DO NOT agree with!

And I'll be getting a Pre as soon as they launch as well!

Apple wants to sell iPhones and iPods. I dont think they'd be particularly interested in providing a value added service to another hardware manufacturer - it they were you'd be seeing OsX on generic PCs.

Good news & bad news...

Anybody want on the SA Palm Pre pre-order list? ETA is Jan 2010...

"Hi Christo,

The Pre is due for release in SA during Jan 2010 only.

If you are not already on the Pre-order list, I will put your details on the list so that we can contact you as soon as the device is available.

Thank you for the feedback,

Best Regards,

Monique"

chris2.0 ... any idea from Palm SA who'll be offering the Pre (MTN/Vodacom/Cell C)? Is this pre-order list for direct sales to the public (cash sale)?

Palm should have done their job properly the first time rather than rely on a bug in Apple's software.

If Palm was in the music player business with various iPod-like devices (like Apple) then yes developing an iTunes competitor would make sense. To do so for the Pre will not make any sense. Third party apps is the way to go for Pre, and there are several (and Palm's official response to this is to use other apps). It's just that most Pre users probably already own iPods and want one place to do all. Understandable.

No what I meant was that interoperating with the iTunes library can easily be done - the right way - as Apple provides a XML file describing the library etc. Palm chose to use a hack rather then interoperate with it correctly.
