Hi All

I'm in a bit of a dilemma .. Last night for some reason Apple decided to do fraud prevention on my account
No idea why, I only tried to install a game and when prompted for a password I had to verify my security questions

These where set up years ago and have no idea what the answers to them are.
I'm unable to make any purchases until the above issue has been resolved
And had my apple ID blocked for 8 hours

I emailed apple hoping its a simple here's the reset link but apparently I need to make telephonic contact with them. I have a US account,

Has anyone been faced with the same or similar error message and how does one resolve the error

I have a MacBook,iPad and iPhone using the same apple ID. I use the icloud services as well I'm afraid I will have to create a new ID to make use of the services but will loose out on all the apps and stuff I bought over he years..

may be a stupid question, but have you had a look through "keychain access" in utilities on your macbook for the password

if i recall, your id details should also be in your iphone backup (if done) within the bowels of itunes.
i seem to recall digging it up for someone last year (specifically to extract specific text messages out of the iphone backup) using "iphone backup extractor" and then "MesaSQLite" to read the contents of the backup.

I had the same problem 3 months ago. I just phoned their technical support in the US and I had my security questions reset in 15 minutes :)

I guess that's my best shot
My problem is all the fake info used for signing up with for the US account
I don't want to be caught out or worse have my account cancelled or revoked

maybe I'm paranoid but it seems like the only option is to call them :(

have you checked through "keychain access" , in "utilities" on your macbook
most login details / passwords are stored there

Thanks ..I had a look at the keychain access and unfortunately the information I'm looking for is not there

Apple is asking for the answers to the security questions they asked when you signed up for an ID

They are

What's was your favorite job?
What was your first car you owned
Where were you on 01 January 2000

I can't answer any of them :(

I'm allowed to download free apps but not paid apps.

I'm forced to a webpage that has 2 of the three questions and was previously locked out of my account for 8 hours after 3 incorrect attempts

There a two things that's going to be a problem even after you reset your details: a) ZA credit-cards only work in the ZA app store(since it verifies your account details with a bank), and also b) games aren't available within the ZA app store.

So was mine. :) They didn't ask anything related to my Alabama address.

Play it cool man. Play it cool. :p

Happened to me last night. Tried to purchase an App. Put in password. Message came through - requested me to answer my security questions. Tried once - did them wrong. Was asked to do it again. Then noticed the link through "forgotten your AppleID" (or something to that effect)...

Hit that link, and requested to reset my security questions. Email was sent to alternative email address - clicked the link in that email, signed in again, and selected new questions. All done - 5 minutes max. It was late, so never tried to purchase the App again, will in a few minutes, but presumably all should be fine.

I guess morale of story - if in doubt, try and change things BEFORE locking yourself out by incorrectly guessing. Hope this helps someone else....

Ps - presume Apple is doing this automatically, possibly as a simple security refresher?

No, the questions for Alabamians are along the lines of what was your relation to your spouse before you were married...

Hi thanks all

I called Apple US today.. Managed to reset my security questions with no hassle.. Took bout 10min and was sorted

Only asked for my name :) rafdotcom

I'm having similar issues, except it wouldn't recognise my password and even the question about which day I was born on was incorrect. Tried to reset my password via e-mail but none of the mails are coming through.

Make that call. It's quicker than fretting and spending hours to find workarounds. :)

I agree.. less hassle if you call them

I did the research there's no way around it afaik

Nah nothing of that sort

They did request a number to call me back I case the call got cut off

I just assured them the call wouldn't disconnect and yeh everything went smooth.

You would need to be near a pc when calling them as they ask you to log on to the website for verification codes and so on

This is a routine update that Apple are doing on all accounts after that last hacking scandal went down with password resets.

You can normally reset the questions via your alternative email address.
