Hi

Trying to use apple intelligence but it seems its not fully active in SA. In settings there is a “apple intelligence and SIRI” tab but in normal use on the device the apple intelligence features dont work.

Anyone managed to get it working without changing language or region settings?

Yup works just fine.

Make sure both your Siri Language and Device language are set to South Africa.

It does have a pretty big download to do in the background.

On the apple intelligence tab it specifically has a note that its not available when the language is set to South African English.

With the next update, iOS 18.2, South African English will be included, so then there won’t be any need to change your region or language settings to US.

18.2 is actually releasing this week, I think either today or tomorrow, maybe Wednesday latest, so just hold on for a day or two.

Aah you aren’t on the latest iOS yet.

Thought it rolled out to the public by now.

18.1.1 is the latest
Yes, because 18.2 is not released yet. As mentioned (and I hope you are reading our replies on your thread), you need 18.2 for Apple Intelligence to work with South African language and region settings

18.2 is coming very soon

Wife took one look at my AI likeness in Playground and said “I told you not to pull funny faces in your photos”.

I wonder how they will be able to “help you understand” AI when they don’t even have the most basic product knowledge.

I spent quite a bit of time in a few different iStore branches the last few weeks, and was shocked when listening to the consultants deal with customers…they don’t know their products at all.

Guess Apple intelligence is going to ruin my experience just like googles stupid AI search assistant thing now that keeps putting random, mostly wrong info at the top of my searches! Hopefully apple will still let me opt out of using the “AI” unlike google.

Also, anyone else’s devices extremely slow and laggy since the update to IOS 18?

It would be a little laggy at first, due to reindexing, but it should return to normal in no time?

Your device will be slow for a day as it re-indexes Spotlight etc.

Apple still doesn't have a search engine so Intelligence will just refer that to whatever you selected as your default, or ask ChatGPT if that's how you configured it.

There will likely be more options in the future.

My phone is back to normal now. But my IPad has been on iOS 18 for almost a week now, and everything is still super slow….it is gen 7 iPad though, so probably about time for an upgrade. Sort of wish I left it on 17.xxxx now

Can manually roll it back if you need to.
