Apple Intelligence - Real World Use

Would also explain why the base model storage has gone up.

But people will still think they are somehow getting less.
I foresee this being an “issue” in ‘25 especially on Macs. Apple Intelligence heavily punted, continues to take up more storage yet base storage (the average user’s go to) stays at 256gb.

I know you have different view re: 256gb is enough but hopefully you will see my point from the average Joe perspective.

I share a similar view on base (128gb) non-Pro iPhones.

On the Mac front it may become more of an issue since I’ve had a 512GB primary the last year and don’t have a day to day reference any more and not near it now to check how much I have free.

From a holistic perspective I’ve had about 1% of users on 256GB having issues with space and I know this due to them not being able to update because of it. In most cases emptying their trash resolved it easily.

Phone wise 128GB is still just fine with 40GB free on my phone and the biggest chunk going to WhatsApp of all things which I consider to be ephemeral crap that can get flushed happily.

As always if you are cloud first then local storage isn’t much of a concern and if you aren’t you would have bought the bigger ones anyway.

I must say I’ve been using that “summarise” button at the top of Mail quite a bit recently and that’s proven quite useful especially on kak I don’t really care about but need to be aware of.

Just sucks that it’s only on my Mac and iPhone, where I do Mail on my iPad mostly. Would have been great to still have the option to offload to cloud on non-AI devices as a means of uniformity.

Ugh, Apple Intelligence continues to get this wrong on my Macbook:

Summary says that the package is ready for collection, while the actual message says they will let me know once it is ready for collection.

What is it with Whatsapp and hogging storage?!

Honestly I don’t know. I’ve set mine with a default 90 day timer but that doesn’t work for everything.

When I change phones I purposely drop my WhatsApp data.

It's crazy. It's the top of my storage hogs. Also one of the largest apps in size.

My tinfoil hat is a bit crumpled but "spyware" is a term in the back of my mind.

Just upgraded my iMac to Sequoia 15.3 from Sonoma. In System Settings I don't see the Apple Intelligence toggle switch. Is this due to the "Mobile Asset Framework" downloading or what?

Features like email summaries and a few others are not available on my Mac. Could this be the reason?

What iMac model? And you know about the language settings requirement?

WhatsApp until recently (not sure when they changed) used to have 7 back-up copies of your data, so e.g. 1-2GB of back-up is 7-14GB.

Checking now, they seem to have improved a lot there, media directly uploaded, text store is just one full back-up copy and one that's with increments/differential, storage usage is now 2GB for me (though I have recently cleared stuff).

Was actually one of the reasons I moved to Telegram.
