Apple iPad mini gets rumour mill going

There’s a constantly spinning mill of rumors about Apple products, most of which turn out to be untrue. What’s unusual this week is that talk has revived of a smaller iPad model, an idea company founder Steve Jobs derided publicly a year before he died...

What Steve wanted is irrelevant - there's a new captain at the helm and he's doing things his way and the company is doing better than ever. Steve is an important figure in Apple's history but that's just what it is - history.

It's not rubbish it's true!
It's known as the iPad Nano - but most insiders call it the iPhone 4s

hehe

“There are clear limits of how close you can physically place elements on a touch screen before users cannot reliably tap, flick or pinch them. This is one of the key reasons we think the 10-inch (25-centimeter) screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps,” he said.

Jobs failed to mention Apple’s success developing apps that use taps, flicks and pinches on the iPhone, with its 3.5-inch (8.9-centimeter)screen.

I think the rumoured 8" iPad would be perfect. The current iPad is just a little too big to take everywhere. They could sell it for $300.

I think it would be stupid to ignore the enormously successful decisions the prior CEO made. But ya, whatever, I really don't want to join the league of plastic armchair CEOs..

The mini iPad would make perfect sense from an Apple ecosystem point of view, for those who want get in at the low end.I mean, they did it for the iPod Shuttle and iPod Nano successfully. The difference from a 3.5" to 7.5" screen can be quite dramatic unless it's from ~9" to 7,5", but, then mobility considerations(i.e.the handbag analogy) could also factor. Indeed, the below quote throws Job's assertion out of the water.

So,no sandpaper on this one.Yes BIGGER(up to a reasonable...amount?) is better, but then "efficiency" also comes into play.By the way, I'm an Android fanboy but a great admirer of the Apple way, save, by not being "jailed" into their ways.

Could not fit iPad in pocket, sold iPad. Can fit HTC Flyer in pocket, will keep Flyer.

Pretty simple really :D Bigger is better - but it's nice to have the choice. A mini iPad would probably sell faster than the current one.
