Apple iPhone 5 delay, Qualcomm chip shortage to blame?

A supply shortage at chip maker Qualcomm could delay next generation phones including the new iPhone...

Tim Cook . . . remember what he used to do before he became CEO? If anyone is going to be delayed by a chip shortage it wont be Apple because they would have locked up supplies.

I agree, Qualcomm's warning is more for their other customers because Apple has most likely prepaid for most of Qualcomm's chip production capacity.

/EDIT Tim Cook was not too concerned about this, when questioned about this in the recent quarter earning call. I.e. he eluded to the fact that the affected chipsets are not used by Apple.

You already have if you own either an iPhone or IPad 3G -- the sim ejector tool is liquid metal I.e. made by an injection molding machine using liquid metal.

Of course it's nothing fancy, but consider what it would take to make something like that (using a metal) by conventional means.

By all reports Apple used liquidmetal for this primarily to assess quality, reproducibility and their ability to meet production volumes.

Clearly they did as they have been making sim tools ever since.

Hahaha, yes but we are talking Apple here, nevertheless the point is liquidmetal has quite clearly passed its trial phase, so it's very likely we'll see this in future Apple products; yes let's hope not only iPhone and iPad; think this could do wonders for the MBP, MBA and iMac.

Yes another one of its great properties is heat dissipation aside from strength that far supersedes the existing aluminium.
