Apple Mac Book PRO magsafe charger?

Hi Guys

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement charger for my MacBook PRO. The pins on my magsafe charger have failed and I am having trouble getting it charged. Seems to be a common problem with these chargers when I searched Google. Was there a recall from them? iStore wants R1700 which I will not pay I see them on eBay for around $30. Anyone local selling generic magsafe chargers or know of a fix?

no generics cos the magsafe mechanism is patented by Apple.

Go w/ ebay or scour junkmail, etc.

I had a problem with one of my chargers - the two outside pins were stuck in. I could dislodge them temporarily by swinging it onto a table and dabbing it with a little lubricant. Eventually though I dug out a old adapter, cut the cords off and swapped them. On the plus side I now have a working adapter with a really long cord :)
 
Found a guy selling them for R650 bargain. But I think I'm going to epoxy the pins in place on broken one for spare. Might have to shave some material off the metal part of the connection to get it to fit just right. Thought of super gluing but with the constant snapping of the magnet against the macbook chassis I don't see this lasting long. This is why they keeping failing IMO anyway. That constant snap which is quite violent is killing the tiny pusher springs on the pins, does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. They using rare earth magnets which are pretty strong but over kill for this application. Other method was to hack the connection and get at the internals but that's a pretty drastic fix and looks like crap.

They have a patent on their specific connector. Should be quite easily circumvented, but that doesn't mean Apple won't use their money to bully someone into stopping production.

I see it listed at R800 on zastore and R1000 on digicape.

It's not clear how widespread failures are. With both the old and new designs I've never allowed the connector to smash into place. Rare earth magnets would seem to make sense for the application though. They're strong at very short distances. just strong enough that they hold the plug in place, but it comes away with a little force.
