Apple MacBook Pro line gets refreshed

Thanks MYBB. I wouldn't have known this. It's a bit strange why they wouldn't say a word about this

Awesome, my 13" MBP couldn't have died at a better time. :)

Even the Apple MacBook Air line also got refreshed. Like my dad got an Apple MacBook Air last week which includes a Sandy Bridge i5 (integrated HD3000 graphics) with like a 120GB SSD, which really impressed me - but it did come with a nice big price tag too.

Yeah that's the great thing about the air, the SSD. I tried one, and thought - holy cow! mine is so slow in comparison.... yet my hardware is waay better (excluding my HDD vs SSD of course) The SSD just makes the responsiveness that much better.

BTW what are the upgrade options if you have a macbook?
I know they're said to have good resell value, but who'd want to buy it now that the quad core ones are out?

I got my macbook pro after the mid 2009 refresh, so it has SD card reader etc... but I would like at least 4GB more ram (total 8GB), and also an SSD in it... 256 or 512  even ... What would you recommend? I really can't afford the apple premium prices just for a hardware upgrade.

I'll take it off your hands for 5grand ;-)

Lol.... :erm: sure, you can only lift it 5cm though, then you must put it back in my hands ;)

btw was just wondering about this refresh.... think it's an idea they had since steve jobs passed?
I hope they tested this better spec'd hardware throughly? Eg I remember the 500GB 7200rpm hdd that gave major problems... (5400rpm one didn't)

Im about to get a new Mac.. this refresh is not that different to the current range so I wont feel like i missed out. Really looking forward to next years re-design/-refresh..

I think the current krappy exchange rate might make the new MBP line slightly more expensive.

You can upgrade the ram yourself, according to: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1270#link2 that machine can take up to 8 gigs. Almost any generic ram should work, but i usually buy from www.macsales.com. With regards to hdd, you can change that yourself as well, and again any generic SATA HDD should work, so you can go SSD if you like.

That actually sucks man, what happend? Replacement value on these things are so high, but it is a good excuse to go out and get one of the new ones :)

"Pricing remains the same on all models" so it's still overpriced, that's what it means

Didn't apple do this quite a while back?? The last upgrade I saw replaced the processors with core I processors and added keyboard lighting to the mix.

I'm also waiting for Ivybridge before buying a new laptop, my i7 dv7 still has some kick left in it...

Decided I couldn't wait for the refresh and picked up a 13" 2.7gHz yesterday. Just need to swap out the drive with my hybrid and replace the stock ram with 8gb and I'll be good to go.

Makes me think you're thinking about the MacBook Airs.

What's wrong with it?
It froze up the other day and wouldn't restart unless I used the hdd in a usb enclosure. I get a kernal panic. My best guess is the logic board has failed.

My plan now is to get one of those CD/DVD bay kits and see if it works (that drive still functions 100%). At least then the missus gets an upgrade.
