Owning one of the new MacBooks is more than about productivity. Encased in brushed aluminium, this notebook exudes style and is guaranteed to get you noticed in coffee shops.

Apple's range of new MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks has arrived in time for the festive season.

The company has introduced new versions of its top-end MacBook Pros, but it's the new, 13-inch, all-aluminium MacBook that is set to have Mac fans drooling over their Christmas stockings.

The machines - there are two variants, one with more powerful specs than the other - live up to expectations. Featuring 2 GHz or 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 2 GB of RAM, 13,3-inch widescreen displays and the same great keyboard styling found on the lightweight but underpowered MacBook Air, the new MacBook machines are designed to be real workhorses on the road.

The new line comes with a generous 160 GB hard drive, though this can be upgraded to 250 GB or even 320 GB.

The MacBook's trackpad uses Apple's new multitouch technology - similar to the interface on the iPhone but with more features - that makes it much easier, for example, to flip between applications.

If you get one of these machines, it's worth spending time to learn how to use the trackpad properly. Owning one of the new MacBooks is more than about productivity.
