Apple / Nelson Mandela

I think the opposite may be the case where if you don't dedicate something to Mandela it basically means you don't care... it's ridiculous that it is the case but that's the kind of vibe I get.

But why should a company care? It is a company, not a person. If people expect companies to care about deaths, it is the people who are wrong, not the companies.

If Madiba was killed by an exploding Apple device, that would be different.

Because their customers care. It's PR but it's good PR.

I guess this could be seen as PR but to my mind it's marketing.

Both the Mandela and Steve Jobs tributes are in the same black and white style which matches the "Here's to the crazy ones..." campaign so IMO this is a very nice (and clever) call back to that campaign as well as a perpetuation of the symbology.

This type of tribute has not been limited to Mandela and Jobs; they've also extended this to a few others throughout the years, for example: Rosa Parks, George Harrison, Gregory Hines, Jerry York, ...

To those who were unable to understand my post - and Arthur specifically, my comment is about the picture itself - not the company displaying it.
