Hi All,

I have the strangest issue with sidecar affecting my wifi latency.

The setup i use is Macbook Pro 15 - Monterey 12.2.1
Ipad Pro 12.9 - 15.3.1

I am using sidecar to turn my Ipad into a second screen to work off.

i am using Ping Plotter and noticed as soon as sidecar is turned on i get an extremely strange latency.
as you can see it starts at the router then bounces along all of the addresses.
the data just before all the sky-scrappers with a smooth line is prior to turning on sidecar

i was using a cheap Tp-Link router at work.
in trying to fix this issue i brought a spare AX3000 router from home - same issue with this

any ideas what the problem might be?

Without doing any research on Sidecar and not having used it myself I’m going to assume it’s using some kind of multicast protocol that is consuming the available bandwidth and therefore is perceived in Ping Plotter.

The question is does Sidecar work? Is this only a problem because you can see it in a graph or is there a legitimate underlying problem that is causing a lack of productivity?

I would guess only a network/router doing something like Multicast Enhancement would negate this somewhat.

Wouldn’t be surprised if an Airplay stream presents in the same way.

Presumably this is only happening when using wireless and not while connected over USB?

Has anyone found a free way to use the iPad in portrait mode? I love Sidecar but not enough to want to spend $120 on Duet.
