Apple TV 4K vs Amazon Fire TV

Both devices are also great for streaming high-quality movies and series – thanks to 4K, HDR, and high-quality audio support. The Apple TV 4K supports the Dolby Vision HDR standard, while the Fire TV supports the HDR-10 standard.

Yeah - And you gonna need a 10Meg or higher DSL connection to enjoy the above. Chromecast seems to be the one to have.

Much more than that.

UHD HDR can just run on a 19Mbps connection with a 25Mbps recommended

It is worth pointing out that the AppleTV supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision (NOT just Dolby Vision as the article suggests), while the Amazon FireTV only supports HDR10.

Additionally you cannot download 4K movies on the AppleTV, you can only stream them, so the storage size is irrelevant if you're going 4K. Storage is only really important for any apps you might want to install on it, and I would argue that outside of apps for actually... you know... watching TV, the appeal is likely small.

My personal preference is of course the AppleTV given my already large library of iTunes film/series content and I'm glad that Apple chose to support both HDR standards instead of doubling down on one.

He can just use Google play movies...

That only became a cost effective option yesterday. (And I see Amazon also playing ball at $20)

Say thanks good guy Apple for forcing everyone else’s hand...but oh wait we should hate them by default because it’s the cool thing to do.

Still for the lack of remote and requiring a phone to operate these aren’t the same types of devices at all.

And not everyone necessarily wants the Google Store option, which is precisely why the alternative is viable.

It’s all about choice.

A Chromecast is useless to me.

No i"m thanking the movie studios don't think it's got much to do with Apple.

Huh? We have Apple to thank for 4k HDR?

No Apple pushed the prices down to $20.

Only yesterday did Amazon and Google confirm they will charge the same after Apple pushed the movie houses to drop their pricing.

So thanks to Apple everyone wins.
