apple TV question

hey guys, in the market to get this device, but I have some questions for those who have experience with it.

How fast does my internet connection have to be to be able to stream the 720p content (series/movies) from it?
I downgraded to a 1mb line as my need for 4mb/10mb was not justified, but thinking I might just actually need it for this? I don't think it's worth upgrading again just for this service... so want to find out who out there has a 1mb line and streams their stuff from apple catalog.

You won't be able to stream 720p stuff very well with a 1/2mbit line. You need at least a 4mbit line for a smooth experience.

Ditto.

Apart from that it's a brilliant device for streaming from iTunes or for streaming Supersport via Mac.....
 
Even on a 4mbit line you will do a lot of waiting for streaming content. Most ISPs shape that traffic into oblivion.

If I have a Macbook can i stream any media content playing on it directly to my Apple TV?

It can be a bit of a hit and miss depending on which ISP you are with.At the very least you will need a 4MB line.I was even struggling on my 10MB line when using WA and Telkom.With Afrihost however I could stream perfectly and still have downloads running in the background.I would highly recommend the Apple TV2 especially if you jailbreak it and run aTV flash on it(Apple TV3 currently cannot be jailbroken).There is a rich source of media content which you can stream through iTunes or Netflix/Hulu+
