I just downloaded some updates from my local only webafrica account using apple software update, this means that it is has to be a local server, so am I being ignorant when asking this question, has Apple update servers always been local?

Stuff could perhaps be cached locally?

Probably, but where I wonder... If someone would like to test it maybe they could trace it?
What do you know - the updates are akamai'ized and are showing a local IP :D

This bodes well for that rumoured 400mb+ 10.5.2 update :D

This is good, I suspected that akamai might be the culprit or this pleasant surprise :D

We have a Juniper box at work that caches almost everything, so once one person has downloaded the update the rest is over the local LAN. First time I saw this I almost fell over.

Then my IT guy explained it to me.

On my first day at work here I asked my manager, with my good old South African paranoia about bandwidth, I asked my manager if it's OK if I download Debian (3 DVDs). It took about 30 minutes! My first thought was that someone else had downloaded it too and we just have a proxy with a generous cache. But it turns out we just have that much bandwidth

I know this thread is old, but just a quick Q. I dont entirely understand the whole Akamai story, but if i've already run out of international cap, can i still get Apple Software Update to download locally?

Thanks
