Apple vs Android: Mobile browser war

Yet another biased article:

For what reason does this article single out cellular usage (in a "Mobile browser war"), other than to skew it to support a biased point of view?

Here's the conflict:

Based on data derived from Akamai IO for the second quarter of 2013, mobile devices on cellular networks using the Android Webkit accounted for slightly less than 38 percent of requests. Apple Mobile Safari, in comparison, saw nearly 34 percent of requests.

In measuring mobile devices across all network types, Apple Mobile Safari accounted for 54 percent of usage while Android Webkit was responsible for 27.6 percent.

and the conclusion is:
Akamai released its Second Quarter 2013 State of the Internet Report, revealing that Android Webkit remains the most popular mobile browser globally, with Apple Mobile Safari a close second.

tsk...tsk...tsk :wtf:

Amazingly the article ignores the clear trend that other browsers are showing a steady increase...

If I understand correctly, the first set of data excludes iPads (or maybe WiFi only iPads).

What I find strange is that Android apparently has more than 80% of the global smartphone market, but only half of the web browsing. There must be a LOT of Android users that never use any of the smartphone features!

The article unfortunately provides no such clarity, iPad is never even mentioned?

This is what the article mentions is included in the study:
The Akamai State of the Internet Report draws data from Akamai IO, which collects data on browser usage across PC and mobile devices, connecting via fixed and mobile networks.

The only separation indicated between the 2 datasets is:
mobile devices on cellular networks
Vs.
In measuring mobile devices across all network types,

The way in which this article had been written serves no purpose other than to artificially inflate an opinion.

Like which ones?
Read the article and look at the second chart, it is quite clear. If trendlines were added it would clearly show what I said.
Other mobile browsers seen on cellular networks throughout the quarter included Opera Mini, BlackBerry browser, Google Chrome Mobile, Openwave Mobile Browser, and Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile.
