Apple Watch thread

if you're slightly "plump" like I am and a genius i.e Left-handed, you will find the 42mm tends to push the rotary crown sometimes when your wrist twists up.

Acording to the iFixit teardown of the series 2, the 38mm has a bigger battery, but because Apple gives a similar battery life spec for the 2 as they did for the first gen watch, they say the GPS chip must probably be quite power hungry hence the bigger battery in the series 2. If this is the case, I hope it will be possible to somehow disable the GPS for periouds when not really using/needing it.

Why don't you then just wear it with the crown on the other side?

British newspaper The Telegraph reported yesterday that the Apple Watch has been banned from government cabinet meetings after ministers warned wearable devices could be vulnerable to hacking by state-sponsored spies. Smartphones, too, have been barred from cabinet meetings because of similar concerns, with one source saying that “the Russians are trying to hack everything.”

Under UK’s former prime minister David Cameron, several cabinet ministers wore smartwatches, including the former Justice Secretary Michael Gove.

Under the new prime minister Theresa May, ministers have been barred from wearing smartwatches over fear that they could be used by hackers “as listening devices.”

Earlier in the summer, Apple’s Siri was entered as a speaker in an official Australian Parliament transcript as “Hey Siri” accidentally kicked into action and derailed a hearing.

According to The Verge, Apple’s wearable device has been banned from Australian cabinet meetings, too. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, who is a technology fan, used to check his Apple Watch in the chamber of the House of Representatives, but not anymore.

He is now obliged to take it off before cabinet meetings, a government spokesman has confirmed, due to a long-standing policy that no communication devices may be taken into the sensitive room.

As noted by Alastair MacGibbon, who is an advisor for Turnbull on cyber security, greater attention must be paid to communications security as more Internet-connected personal devices emerge, “from glasses to running shoes.”

Pretty much zero stock at iStore.

No Watch Series 2's in PE whatsoever.

Very poor logistics for a "new product launch".

Core group exceeding expectations once again.

Ffs. Ja. Don't know why I started getting my hopes up for this weekend.

So, drive an hour and 15m, an hour, 45m or 40m to the 4 iStores in the WC, only to be told they have none - or phone the "help-line" to confirm stock?

Honestly, driving might prove less frustrating.

lol @ core "help line". It gives Telkom's call centre a run for its money.

It's pathetic - told them as much on their twitter handle.

They came back with a "we expect more very soon, sign up for our newsletter".

If only Apple would launch in SA and Core could be swallowed up into a big dark hole.

I don't get the logic. Why not secure sufficient stock and THEN announce the arrival date?!

They really are fast becoming my most loathed company. And I don't have a list. They're the only one on it.

tbh I think they believe they are "doing us a favour" by even selling Apple products in a semi-formal channel.

Their after sales "support" is as a good as useless. Had some trouble with my first 12" Macbook last year with a dead pixel - the drama and run around made me want to spit.

The staff at the local PE iStore are really awesome, but they cannot make a decision without "head office" approval.

Sad.

Managed to pick up 3 this morning!

Got to Sandton Drive iStore at 05h20 with a friend (gold aluminium for him and I and a silver aluminium for my gf). They had the silver aluminium and one gold aluminium. Bought those two and managed to get them to check the system for another gold aluminium. They said only 4 more were in the system (ie only brought in 5 of that model), with one sitting at the Sandton City iStore. Went there and picked up the 3rd watch.

Severely constrained supply according to the helpline. If there are 100 AWs2 in the whole of South Africa (Digicape included) I'd be surprised.

Not even going to bother driving out over the weekend. Will try next weekend.
