WhatsApp now has an app for your Apple Watch

WhatsApp has finally released an app for the Apple Watch. The new app lets you access basic functionality of the service without having to pull your phone out.

The new WhatsApp app for Apple Watch supports being able to read full messages instead of just snippets. You can also see more of your chat history while reading messages. You can record and send voice messages and also send quick emoji as reactions. The app also shows high resolution images and stickers.

Unfortunately, call functionality is still basic due to platform limitations. You cannot make or receive calls through the Apple Watch itself, but you can see who is calling without having to look at the phone.

WhatsApp claims this is just the beginning for this app, and that there will be more functionality coming in the future. As with other platforms, the Apple Watch app supports end-to-end encryption.

Is there a seperate watch app?

I thought you just needed to update your WhatsApp to gain the feature

Went into the watch app and saw install button next to whatsapp in the app list.

Edit: my watch is configured to NOT auto install apps from the phone that have a Watch component

Exactly this! So frustrating. Also being able to take WhatsApp calls on the watch is great too.

It does on mine, I’ve been waiting for that for YEARS. So I’m very happy that it is finally working.

Seems more reliable, better more structured UI. Apple Watch complication does what it says on the tin.

Must just decide if it’s worth forking out 7 USD to lift the 3 device limit

Why don't you just add battery widgets on your iPhone lock screen instead? You can see all your apple devices' battery percentage without an additional app.

Mac does not show with the default widget.

Great app. Even shows bluetooth speaker’s battery level.
