Apple Watch thread

Does anyone here have hands on experience between the Series 7 or 8 and the Ultra? Looking at activating the Watch benefit through Discovery, just curious if I should pay in the difference and go for the Ultra, or go for a Series 7 or 8 45mm.

Currently on the Series 6.

The question is what do you need the ultra for, it’s a sports smart watch. The ultra is for the one with a Fennix but wants a smart watch.

It’s big, beefy, pretty awesome, but it’s not an every day watch unless some of those days take you into the middle of the bush. I took it over the 8 because of my running, cycling and hiking that takes me to the arse end of nowhere so the durability and safety features are highly beneficial.

I do like that I don’t need to full charge it every day, but if I did not spend so much time out in bushes, the battery would be the only benefit and honestly, not worth double the price. If you don’t need the durability and safety features, then don’t spend the money.

Coming from the 6, the 7 would be pointless, it’s the 6 with a bigger screen.

Thanks for the feedback. Only reason I would consider the 7 over the 8, is there isnt much of a difference between the 7 & 8. The temperature monitoring means little to me.

For the Ultra, I tried one on in the iStore and loved the look and feel of it on my wrist. Currently I am hiking once a month, but looking to do it more frequently, so there would be benefits of the Ultra. Not an ultra marathon guy. And also looking at starting to dive with a friend, so can see benefits there, but that is still a maybe.

My Series 3 is still strong as ever. Apple really do make products which last.
Still rocking my Series 0, which is more than six years old and still going strong. I just hate not being able to have the latest Watch OS etc (support for mine stopped in 2018 with Watch OS 4) but it is still working fine without any problems, and serve my needs.

My series 0 is in my drawer. Retired because it can’t keep up with the Series 3 when it comes to heart rate tracking when doing workouts. Still works super great though!

Would that still not result in a reading, just a cold one. Lol.

1337 I found mine in my app, seems it’s working.

Must be an issue with mine then. Will look at a backup/restore

Anybody managed to get eSim on watch and iPhone from MTN? I’ve been told I can’t have two eSims on one number.

They genuinely do not know what they taking about, it’s taken over 2 weeks to get it sorted out, the easiest thing to do is not tell them what you actually want, but to tell them you want a physical to eSIM swap.

Once you get your eSIM, walk out and setup your watch.

MTN has very dismally trained their staff in this regard.

Technically what they are saying is true, but only in the context of the physical sim stop being active, you can only have 1 data link on your line, which is the eSIM in your watch or on a secondary phone.

So as long as the primary line/link/connection/whatever is NOT on a physical sim, your good to go.

Damn did a backup/restore but still saying 4 days needed

Do the nights have to be recorded under sleep schedule?

That’s kinda when it does it’s sleep tracking. Is your sleep tracking even working properly then?

Someone gave the gf an old Apple series 3 watch - but she’s battling to pair it. Any idea?

She has reset the watch, chosen language , held near the phone as it asked - and opened the Watch app.

She scans the screen and it says there is a watch OS download needed - which she gets.

Then it just says ‘preparing’ And it can’t get past that screen. She’s left it over night and nothing happens. Restarted both phone and watch - just don’t work.

Any ideas?

Have you decided to get the Ultra? I'm interested to know if you were successful in getting it through Discovery by paying in the difference. My SO was looking at the Ultra at iStore in Centurion but according to the lady that assisted her, one cannot get the Ultra with Discovery even if you pay in the difference. I called BS but she insisted. So would like to know if you were successful.

Had a similar issue with daughters Series 3.

Solved eventually by using the 'manual' setup method (ie not scanning the screen and following the manual steps) and then ensuring that I was not restoring anything from an old backup.

It's a real pain in the ass when it doesn't 'just work'

Edit: another tip I read somewhere is if you are able to switch off BT on the watch then it's faster too.
