Apple Watch thread

Can confirm, just have to pay in the difference. Got mine this morning.

Now the fight to get the eSIM working on it. . . Anyone got it working yet? And whats the process?
So eSIM was actually pretty easy. Went to Watch app, selected setup mobile, took me to an MTN page to activate the eSIM for the device. Then it took about 10 minutes to provision and activate it.

Surprisingly smooth experience

My partner's birthday is coming up soon, I want to buy her a apple watch series 7 or 2nd Gen SE cash. Any deals to look out for?

Yeah, hence the 'if' - could possibly try switching off BT on the phone but I'm clutching at straws. I can't remember everything I tried and what eventually worked but I did get it to work eventually without having to reset the phone.
Paired it on an older iPhone and the update worked .

So will get it back tomorrow and try pair to the gf phone

Did the manual setup with the code never work?

That’s usually pretty sure fire.

No - it was the fact that the it needed a new WatchOS version before it could be used. That update doesn't work - and from what I read, it doesn't seem to work on the newer iPhones. Kept hanging on both my 13 Pro and the gf 13 Mini. She found a friend at the office with an older phone and no issue updating.

Once updated on the old iPhone, pairing to the 13 Mini was easy

Jeezlike , imagine being alive just because you happen to have a piece of wearable tech!
That's why I made sure to get the cellular version and go through all Vodacom's many hoops to get it activated. I can think of many times people would take your cellphone but you might be left with your watch and still able to call. Only here in South Africa, we don't have a 911 service ... but you can at least phone other people for help. Imagine reaching the SAPS call centre with a muffled Watch call.

I’d never considered something like that as a reason for having a cellular watch, but I got the ultra and did go through the mission of getting it all done with MTN, given they where the only ones that has eSIM support for an iPhone and also allowed it on top-up contracts so all in it’s costing me R55/mo

Was not going to take my main line both over to contract and over to Vodacon, had enough hassles the last 2 times I was a customer of theirs, and over a year later they still have not solved the iMessage bug, probably because they don’t care as more people don’t know than those who complain.

Anyone here with suggestions and recommendations for a body bumper/case protector or a screenguard? Series 8 45mm which I assume is backwards compate with Series 7?

I tried a few and they all sucked. Eventually gave up.

The stick on guards peal off at the fart of a flee, the ones that cover over make it harder to use, especially if you exercise then the sweat gets in.

That being said, after over a year and at least 2 crashes on my MTB, that screen does not really need it.

It’s got 1 scratch on it and that came from being bashed with the solid steel handle of the battle rope at gym and even then it was hardly noticeable.
