Apple Watch thread

I turn on the cellular function only when I need to. My workout playlist is downloaded to the watch.
Yeah, so turning it on and then going for a run, took it down by 50% or more in an hour, irrespective of whether I was streaming music or playing the downloaded playlist. Turning off cellular didn't make much difference if I had my phone close by as it would never use that connection unless there was no bluetooth or WI-FI to connect to.
I don't see the same behaviour with my current watch as its battery generally lasts for 2 days, but that's to be expected of an AW Ultra 2.

I don’t have cellular turned on when running. It’s actually turned off all the time in my case. I’ll only turn it on when I’m at the garage around the corner to call the vrou in case I need to get something for the house. My long runs are at times in excess of 2 hours and keeping cellular on just doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Edit: Even when cellular is active, if your iPhone is within range it will use the iPhone for data.

Apple tried to make the Apple Watch work with Android phones

After the US Department of Justice launched a lawsuit against Apple, arguing that the company has maintained illegal monopoly over the smartphone market and some related services, the Cupertino-based firm came out with a surprising story.

For years now, one of the main criticisms against Apple has been its walled garden approach, which makes it extremely difficult or impossible to use its devices with other non-Apple products. However, it appears that the tech company tried to make its Apple Watch work with Android phones after all.

In fact, Apple has entertained the idea for three years. Apple's statement is a response to DOJ's allegations that Apple is gatekeeping its ecosystem.

Hi everyone!

Any tips for maintaining the battery health on an Apple Watch? I have already switched off all the unnecessary things to prevent battery drain. Now I just want to know if there are any insider tips on maintaining that coveted 100% battery health for as long as possible.

Not sure if it has been discussed previously but there are so many posts...

That meter serves no other purpose than to allow Apple to dictate when they’ll replace the battery. Its accuracy has been debunked dozens of times over.

The claimed best ways to maintain optimal health is regular small charges staying between 50 and 80%, not let it get too hot, etc.

But you’ll notice a loss of battery life long before the indicator does.

Yes upgrade to a Garmin. You’ll never get good battery life on an Apple Watch.

Thanks @CranialBlaze.

I did not know about it being debunked. I think it has become a psychological thing now. Especially for resale of a device.

I charge my iPhone for short times between 50% and +-80% and was not sure if the watch would do best with the same procedure.

Thank you for the clarity.

Haha! I see a lot of people going to Garmin.

This is my first experience with an Apple Watch. I want to give it a fair chance.

The watch don’t keep their resale value like the phones.
That may be but, like I said, it is more a psychological thing, and it is usually the first thing asked by a person interested in buying one second hand.

IIRC the cycle count for an iPhone is 500 before it hits like 80%. My cycle counts at 136 and it’s at 100%. If the health indicator was accurate, it should be 95/6% right now. Even if the count is higher, it should still not be 100%, technically speaking it should drop to 99% within the first few days or so depending on how they handle rounding.

So either the cycle count is horribly wrong and after 136 cycles it’s high enough for Apple to still be rounding up or the indicator is meaningless. That would put the cycle count at closer to 1500.

Pretty sure a company, for legal reasons would round that down somewhat, not not by like 60/70%, that would be a selling feature. The battery would be running in optimal performance for 4-6 years which is unheard of for lithium

You should probably sell it now then.

Otherwise use it and enjoy it, battery health be dammed.

LOL true.

Maybe just human nature to want to preserve the nice things you have.

You cannot preserve the battery health and use it as it is intended to be used. It's not an investment.
