Position: Application Developer
The Application Developer will work under the supervision of the IT Manager and will be accountable for developing and maintaining key modules. The incumbent must be experienced with web, SQL and OOP programming.
Job Description
Technical Tasks
• Designs, develops and modifies modules based on functional and system requirements
• Works closely with the Senior Software Developer and Marketing team for understanding the functional and system requirements
• Works closely with the Senior Software Developer to ensure architectural integrity and product quality
• Participate in testing process through unit testing and bug fixes
• Assist with day-to-day tasks as required by circumstances
Other Tasks
• Participate in weekly review meetings, and other meetings as required from time to time
• Participate in project planning and keep project planning tool updated
• Work closely with the IT team and Marketing team to ensure quality and punctual software development within his/her responsibilities
Qualifications
Required
• University degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• At least 4 years of relevant work experience
• Good web development skills and experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• Good OOP development skills and experience (PHP, Java)
• Good understanding of relational databases and experience (MSSQL)
• Good understanding of MVC approach and conceptual design
• Experience using Linux systems (bash scripts, cron)
Nice to have
• Experience in using software version control (Git)
• Experience with Eclipse
• Experience working with public APIs (Google Maps, Google Charts APIs)
Interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated, team player, action and results oriented
• Well organized, good communication and reporting skills
• Unfailing honesty and integrity
• Ability to successfully work under pressure to meet tight project deadlines

We service our customers (B2C and B2B) through a website (africaweather.com) as well as mobile apps (iOS, BB, Android, W8) for a reach of 1.5M individual users a month in SA only.
Our most successful products include lightning and hail notification systems protecting people and assets.
