Application programming required

Hi,

I did programming a lifetime ago, and don't have the time for a small application needed for one of my clients possibly.

It just needs to display the information in realtime currently displayed on a Iconix FX21 unit's LCD display, on another preferably normal PC LED\LCD display, otherwise let me know what the options is.

I have the control codes, more information can be required from the manufacturer to communicate with the device.

They recommend using the serial port that's available, currently using that to communicate with the PC for the standard software to show reports, but it lacks functionality to display real-time information. Basically just the weight of the animal that will get onto the scale.

Another option will be for someone to open the device and connect another LCD display directly to the unit that can be extended a few meters and no programming required then I reckon.

Please advise or let me know if you need more information or if someone can point me into the right direction, it will be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you connect the device to a PC via serial, then you might be able to get drivers that have it emulate a keyboard, so e.g. you do
1. Run software, go to animal screen, capture it's name 'Fluffy'
2. Click on the field where you'd type in its weight, put the animal on the scale
3. Even thought the app can't read the value, the driver will when the animal is placed on the scale convert e.g. 5.0 to the equivalent digits/letters and it'll be as if the keyboard has been used to enter the values

You'll have to google for drivers and figure out if that's possible for you. It automatically entering the value might also be a problem if the application is dodgy (also if the vet or whomever screws up the process flow).

The second option is also doable, I know we did something similar at a company I worked at many years ago (but unfortunately I wasn't involved with the people who did the hardware rewiring, so you'll have to google for that as well). Maybe call/ask some electronic stores.
