Just a quickie:eek:...
Would you apply for one position but with multiple recruitment agencies?

What about multiple agencies calling you wanting to send your CV for 1 position.
Would you tell the other agencies that you have already been approached?
What does this (if u apply) to the client when they get your CV from multiple agencies?

Thanks

You hardly ever know which company a recruitment agency is submitting your CV too. But employer will filter through them and just chuck out the duplicates. However if they have 12 CV's and 10 is yours they might just throw all yours out.

But hey, that's just me :p

I had this happen once with a candidate that I actually wanted to hire. The problem happens when you take the job. The recruiter who did not place you looses the commission / placement fee. I think the agencies have an unwritten agreement about this in place but I'm sure it can get nasty.

In my case I had to tell the second agency that I was hiring their candidate but that I had already received the CV from another agency before receiving it from them (which was true). They requested a few items (emails etc) as proof and it was the last I heard of it.

If u knew it was the same position then its simply idiotic to do this, like the earlier posts mentioned, it causes problems with the agencies, and if i received the same c.v tons of times, i would be doubtful.

We're discussing reasonable people here :p

EDIT I forgot to share this tale with you:
In one of my previous jobs, two of my colleagues and I had to shortlist candidates for a position of PA.

A few of the ladies included pictures of themselves (!). One of the applicants' pictures showed her with this explosion of blonde curls.

Since the boss would often call us in to start work earlier than normal, we decided that her hair is clearly high maintenance and it would take her too long to get ready for work in the morning, so we 'disqualified' her :D

The problem is, that if you are applying for 1 position at a company through a number of agencies, it might happen that all of them send your cv through, and the person handling the selection process will get ticked off but getting the same cv from 50 different agencies

I would chuck them out for the following reasons:

1. It will irretate me.
2. It smells of desperation, in a profesional enviroment.... that is a big no-no
3. Will be thinking that if I received 50 CV's that means the agencies sent it to another 50 companies. So one of the other companies can go ahead and employ you then :p

I usually do respond for 1 position to multiple agencies (on CJ/ PNet etc), cause it's like casting your net as wide as u can. Maybe one of those agencies may contact you in order to forward your CV to the client.

But this is tricky cause the agencies contacted asking I was interested and if they can send my CV. I have already agreed to one of them this morning after she told me the name of the co. and sent the specs.

Now I get a call from a diff agency for the same position and she also sent me the specs. I said I will get back to her later after reviewing the spec.

This is where it gets tricky...

C'mon, surely not 50:eek: or even more than 3. Say about 2-3 CVs. Does that still sound desperate or it only means you impressed the agencies;)

Well if one agency send your cv in 2-3 times then I'd say you impressed them, but 2-3 different agencies, nope, they only in it for the money.

That is usually why agencies ask you if you have gone for interviews or applied for specific jobs, just to avoid the situation

If they receive one from an Agency it will look like you have confidence. 3 is still desperation.

Confidence > Desperation

When applying for a vacancy you will find a few on careerjunction based on the criteria you selected. These will all be from different agencies. You have no way of knowing who their client is. They will not tell you either, they call you in for a screening interview and register you. Then they forward your CV and most times only if the company asks to see you will they let you know what company it's for and in most cases the interview will be for the following day. I have had this particular thing happen to me where the agency did not even have a job spec after speding 4+ hours registering on their online system with the skills matrix. They called me up the next day to tell what company it's for and I told them that I had already been sent there, by a different agency. Now I understand they are protecting their interest in that they make money off your appointment, but at the end of the day, it costs you time, effort and money, not too mention your current employer will not be happy about you having to leave all the time for screening and then interview, then short list interview. As for my current job, I told the agency that I had applied for a few jobs and cannot afford to fired for all the screenings and interviews that I had been sheduled for and cancelled all screenings. I advised that they should send my cv, and if the employer want's to see me, I'll make myself available for the interview, they can have a telephonic/skype/msn screening with me if they wish. I had a telephonic screeing, Interview with the company the next day and two hours after my interview was offered the position. The following two other interviews that I had gone for also called with offers.

It can get nasty. I've been in that situation (accidentally), and it's not nice. Each agency wants their commission, and insists that they're the one that should get it.

Plus, I think companies do look unfavourably on people who have 2 or more copies of their CV coming in. It's important that your agent tells you who they're sending your CV to; it's more work for you, but you have to keep control of this process.

I think that many companies have their preferred set of recruitment companies and only work with them instead of all of them.

I was just asking for your views, like I said earlier, if the I normaly send my CVs to different agencies for 1 position only to try and get at least one of them to call me and send my CV to the client.

But the current situation is different cause I was approached by two agencies for the same position (same company). So, I needed to think carefully about it, and I did, and decided to tell the second agent that thanks, I appreciate it, however, I had already responded to that position.

By the way I just dont do the face-face "screening" thing with recruitment agencies (I believe it's the waste of time). If they want to do that then we can chat over the phone (skype, etc) but not waste my time and go see them.

I believe that my CV speaks for itself, and it's up to the client to decide whether they need to see me or not.
