the UK government now knows that I have enough, and earn enough, but they don't know how much I earn or what all my savings are).
They know anyway. There are data sharing agreements in place. ;)

True. Although I have less of an issue with my details being in a "secure" database somewhere, rather than random hard copies floating around the office.

A friend of mine is a board member for a co-op in New York, when someone wants to buy a flat there, they have to submit an application to the board, which includes a resume, and all financial statements, tax returns, etc. Shocking, I know! What really got me though is that when they are done reviewing an application, they just toss it in the trash - no shredding!

Your personal information is screened thoroughly by the UK government. Also including financials, records of crimes, background information and travel history along with any border entry issues. There is little to nothing you can hide, except maybe your browser history. It's an extensive list of resources they have accessible to them ;)

As I said, I'm fine with that. My second paragraph is what you give to the "body corporate" if you want to buy in a co-op building, which is crazy.

Quite the opposite for me...hard copies...there aren't really any evil-doers nearby and if there were the chances of one finding that specific copy of something usable is diminishingly small. Stopped shredding my own document waste too. In contrast anything on the web is exposed to a bazzillion russian haxors & that does unsettle me esp in connection with cards.

Well except my sharetrading portfolio...that platform UI is so fkin terrible the haxor would just give up on getting money out. (HSBC).

edit...nvm I see I misread your secure db...you meant gov db

Maybe have a chat to said friend then. ;) Being careless with other people's info isn't cool.
