I know this is probably futile, but lets start asking Neotel when it is going to respond to the ADSL moves.

Send them a email, call them, use whatever method you like to ask them when they are going to launch real uncapped services. Especially for Neoflex users.

it can't hurt. Except for the electrons that will die as you hit send...

If they get enough mails, maybe they will wake up....

yes, Neotel has got nothing to do with this fantastic DSL offer with Axxess R496 for 4Mb Uncapped (131 line, 413DSL, 496uc=R1040pm) All you have to do is send Neotel a stinking email stating how unhappy you are with their service, refuse to pay the device charge left on your contract, tell them to fetch it, otherwise you're taking a flamethrower to the device, recording it on cam, and posting it on youtube and facebook - then join Axxess - simple isnt it! :)

Scuttlebutt has it that NeeTel won't be reducing their prices soon.

So we'll have to show them what competition means.

I asked them via their website a few days ago. Still waiting for a reply.

My query:
I have a NeoGo Datacard & I really would like a facility where one can log in and check your itemised data usage for the month. When will you have such a service? I have tried calling the call centre a few times but that does not work for me.

When will you be providing additional UNCAPPED data products( I am aware of your NeoConnect Prime & NeoConnect Lite unlimited packages)? This is now for NeoFlex or Neogo.

Will you be adjusting your data rates in lieu of what is happening in the ADSL market?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Good Day ***********

Thank you for your enquiry posted on our website dated the 24th of March, 2010.

We currently do not have the indicator to show how much usage you have left and how much you have used to date. We are however working on that feature but we have not been advised as to when this will be resolved or put in place, in the interim if you may please contact our Consumer Business Line on 0800333636 and they will be able to advise you on the usage thus far, or you can e-mail us on [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>.

We will be coming with new products as we have been advised in the middle of the year however this has not been confirmed and the pricings of these will also be adjusted to relate to the current market.

For any further enquiries please do feel free to contact us by e-mail or by giving us a call on 0800333636.

Thank you for your interest in Neotel and I trust this information was of some assistance.

Regards

The thing is that if I am a Neotel customer I have done that either because I can't get ADSL where I am or that I have decided to go with Neotel because I have made a conscious decision to use NeoFlex as opposed to ADSL.

I made that choice based on the total cost of installation of ADSL and the cost of my anticipated bandwidth usage. Now that calculation was made just over a year ago and at the time that Neotel was more economical. Today, if that choice was made made I would have not had any choice other than to go with ADSL.

Right now I am holding onto my Neoflex in the hope that Neotel will at least up the caps on the their packages and drop the cost of the out of bundle bandwidth. At best I would think that the caps should be abolished.

Considering that Neotel owns and operates its own infrastructure the costs of running (as opposed to recouping capital expenses) should be lower than a company that has to pay Telkom for the ability to provide broadband to their customers.

If Neotel wants its Neoflex service to be competitive with ADSL as a broadband service for anyone other than those that can't or won't get Telkom services, it needs to be cost competitive with ADSL and considering that I can (if I forget about the R130 line rental tax) get a 4Mbps ADSL line with unlimited bandwidth for R899 the same cost as a 15GB Neoflex service.
I suppose that the real question is: When Neotel launched a FTTH service is it expecting to charge a significant premium for the service, when Telkom probably will have at least 10Mbps ADSL services up and running and trialling higher speeds by then?

I don't really want FTTH (OK I do want it but I don't need it) I want to get more for what I am paying now.

Here's something to consider,

We are planning to launch a NeoBroadband service (1 Mbps downlink, 768 Kbps uplink) over WiMax with a 35 GB softcap for R1,600. This will be the smallest bandwidth and cheapest offering that could be used for a SOHO or individual.

The problem is not one of technology, its one of marketing. Neotel was very good by not promising its subscribers 'broadband' when it launched NeoConnect Prime, and I thought that was a good move.

Neoflex is, however, described as "A solution that presents a multi-user, high-speed, high-capacity data service and is best suited to small home offices, SMEs or high-data usage home users."
What has just happened is that the definition of 'high capacity' has just changed from 10GB a month to 30GB a month. When I was on ADSL on a 384 line I downloaded 17GB in one month without breaking a sweat. This could easily be described as what a 'high-data usage' individual would use in a month. And I would consider that conservative. So if NeoFlex is not going to be repackaged as a 'medium data usage' service then I think that my point is still valid.

The problem is that WiMax is a great last mile replacement technology for small businesses but even if the contention ratio is not high and you are getting nice low latencies then people are not going to spend double the cost of an ADSL line for a service that has a lower cap (after which you get charged more) and (theoretically) lower speeds just because they don't like Telkom.
In fact I would be hard pressed to favour that over Neoflex except for the element that if I really had to use NeoBroadband and was going to use 35GB it works out R800 cheaper than Neoflex (R799 (excluding device fee) + 20GB @ 8c/MB = R1600 just for the additional bandwidth)

Logic would dictate that Neotel should only be rolling out its services in areas where all the Telkom lines have been stolen or where the exchange is not ADSL enabled because that is the only conceivable reason to buy these services over an ADSL line.

I agree 100% and NeoBroadband is still more expensive than getting and 4mb ADSL line (which will soon be 8mb) an uncapped option for just over R1000

LOL

The NeoFlex device was suppose to be able to achieve the following according to your website:
"Peak speeds of 3.1Mbps (downloads) and 1.8Mbps (uploads). "
I'm on the 5G NeoFlex data package @ R500 p/m.

Now you want me to pay R1600 p/m to get "1 Mbps downlink, 768 Kbps uplink".
Are there ANY intelligent people working at Neotel or are you all brain dead morons?
I can get a 4Mb ADSL line + landline rental for R550 and then can add an uncapped bundle to that for a total under a R1000 month. That's R600 less than your inferior product offer.

If you aren't prepared to be compared to ADSL then take note that IBurst is launching an uncapped service that will be free on any usuage after 12 at night. What is Neotel doing? Probably nothing.

Access to information should be free. You should bill people for the speed at which they receive the information. That's the new trend and how it should have been from the start.
If you aren't prepared to change, then prepare to lose probably half of your pathetic base as it is (+/- 35,000), if not more.
The only reason people stayed with Neotel is because it was affordable.

I can now get proper speeds on ADSL at an affordable price.
I live near the city center and will have no problem having a line installed.
I was initially anti-Telkom, but that opinion is changing since I'm not prepared to shoot myself in the foot.
I also believe I'm not the only one of your subscribers in this position.
I understand that we are funding your fiber network, but expect to get the benefits as well from a consumer point of view. Currently it seems that only business clients benefit.
I'm waiting for FTTH, but until then I expect a bigger cap, if not uncapped, and better speeds.
At least as a constant 120KB.

From my understanding, Neotel controls the landing station of the SEACOM cable. So when is that bandwidth filtering down to your own clients, that other ISPs are currently utilising and benefitting from.
You have four months before my contract expires.
In the meantime I'm going to phone Telkom today and enquire about a landline and ADSL installation.

We are tired of empty promises and expect some results now.
The ball is now in your hands...

Don't apply pressure - just leave them. vote with your wallet

I just wish that they would extend their coverage and improve the quality of their network. I am burning through huge amounts of cash on Vodacom HSDPA each month. Would love to be able to move to Neogo or whatever they call it.

@ pkid - bad Idea I moved from Voo****cum to Neohell 6 months ago - it has been the worst decision I have ever made in my life - it is the cyber equivalent of being diagnosed HIV + :wtf:
