How quickly people forget about Windows 3.1 and 3.11 and Windoze 95...

Those were all great in their time. Win 98me was crap from begining to end.

Windows '98 was crap.... all versions of it.
Windows XP is very stable for me as a desktop, but for server u cant beat Linux. I dont like using an M$ OS on any server, it's just too dodgy

plus windows uptime and security is laughable, theres no place for windows in the server game, despite what this propaganda campaign by the yankee group might suggest

how far off topic can you lot go? slim i recon ure wrong. ms server 2003 as a PDC and file server rock. I also dig exchange in a big way, even if its just from ease of management. So your MS servers keep going down? I say its the admin :)

However, I use BSd servers to connect to the net with. IE, software firewalling, webserver, gateway, whateva, i just think SAMBA is lank crap :) I can do more with server 2003:P thats just my opinion :)

PS my P2P is fine :)

And much does the designer of video covers know about I.T ???.

Rather feckall it seems.

I work for one of the biggest retailers in S.A and in every one of our stores is a Windows 2000 machine that processes the debit/credit card and airtime voucher purchases.

Previously I used to work for a retail bank and we had about 4 dual processor servers running NT 4.0 that was the front end for our dialup banking terminals.

They were only down when we needed to to software upgrades.

no no I mean as someone who has more than dabbled in security a windows system is an open door also the uptime can't beat linux at all, there are linux systems that havent been rebooted for 3 years and more, windows gets cloggy after a few weeks. Also being that linux is a devlopers system it's ideal for the server enviroment. Lastly... virii, I defy you to find a REAL virus on linux that has proved to be a threat to anyone. It's no co-incidence that the webserver market is ruled by linux

oh you're a retailer? well I am a software developer, server admin and web developer, so while you run around in incredible connection thinking you're a IT ***, I am doing 4 jobs and school, keep your snotty "I AM A SUPER GEEK" remarks to yourself, the DVD cover thign is on the side and barely takes 2 hours of my week, <deleted by="ic" reason="Forum Etiquette"/>

i see you're replying, before you get your bitchy reply in let me say this, let it go, whatever it is you don't like about me, just let it go... its a forum. You don't have to keep this snotty act with me, "slimy toad" etc, the thing is, I'm young if I have an outburst we can blame it on naivity or misled youth or immaturity... whats your reason?, you're a bitter old man looking for a fight, just let it go, I don't even know you (on this forum)

Now diid I ever say retailer or Incredible Corruption ???.

you really have a huge attitude problem ... no respect for cops and now this ... tsk tsk.

I am a C programmer with about 16 years of experience that has developed EFT and retail applications running on DOS,Windows,Linux,Solaris and a few other oddball OS (some of which I wrote myself) and specialist hardware platforms.

Last time I checked the software I helped to developed over the years has processed a few million rand in transactions per day.

So my left nut probably has more geek in it than your entire existance.

BWAHAHAHAHA ... I also saw it coming.

IC, how about a poll about which forumite think they are the best ... you only need one option: ME :D

And I must say tibby, your response was VERY predictable ... we actually don't care what you did/do/wanted to do/pretended to do. Load your CV onto one of the BIG jobboards in SA, this forum is not for CV submissions.

Perhaps you should now edit your earlier postings where you

a) inferred that I was some kind of dumb clueless salesman working in Incredible Connection.

b) Your lofty evaluation of Windows having no space in the server game.

Reading too much slashdot ???.

Instead of debating the facts i.r.o Windows you come up with some other mumbo jumbo crap about my age.

Stop backpedalling.
