Approved ISP's on DSTV on demand

DSTV on demand allows subsribers on premium to download and view selected programs through an approved ISP. Currently its only Mweb and why are there no other major ISP's listed as approved? :cry:
 
Because Naspers are insisting that only ISP's that allow peering will be given the necessary access.

And, as I'm sure is now obvious, no other ISP wants to do that.
 
You'll need to get an Mweb a ..... oh wait, nope, no other solution.
Buy an HD-PVR maybe?

What exactly do you mean by peering? Like peer 2 peer??
 
I really don't see the appeal of this product, unless ofcourse I was a tannie living overseas and wanted to pull my latest episode of Binnelanders.
 
Multichoice are working hard to ensure any user of the sevice will have good performance all the time. This is of course going to affect shaping and QoS.

Pretty sure some other ISPs will be on the approved list soon though.

To elaborate, it means that different ISP's allow each other to traverse each other's network.
In an ideal world, this will allow for much quicker responses and shorter roundtrips and thereby will decrease latency and improve connection speeds to and from sources within different ISP networks.

Here's an example ......

If I use Internet Solutions as the ISP at my house and my next-door neighbour uses, say, Telkom. If I do a trace to him, it goes from my house to the local exchange, then makes a few other exchange hops before reaching the official 'gateway' into Telkom's network and then gets routed through multiple exchanges back to my neighbour.
Peering would allow the traffic to go from my house to the local exchange, then hop directly over on to Telkom's network infrastructure (which exists within the same exchange) and then back to him.

Doesn't the internet go via certain nodes automatically, in Jo'burg to be specific. So it doesn't go to the exchange and then back to the neighbour.
