Best ways to stop annoying spam calls

Spam and telemarketing calls are one of the major frustrations experienced by cellular users in the modern age, with many South Africans receiving multiple unsolicited calls daily.

However, apps such as Truecaller, Hiya, and Call Control are available to the country's residents, that can help them identify, avoid, and block spam calls.

Does anyone know if the Waspa dnc.org.za still works? I am assuming it only works if it's members are part of Waspa. Those companies not registered will still send spam calls. Although the dnc.org.za may limit the amount of spam

I have the Google dialer and it does a good job as well. Flags possible spam calls and allows you to block them easily. Also identifies business numbers usually.
Well said, no need for any OTHER apps. When using a UNADULTERATED pure Android OS.

Yea works almost perfectly for me

There was one telemarketing company that somehow bypassed it for a little while but eventually Google started to block them

Truecaller Premium works for me. Hardly any spam despite what a guy on Twitter says.

But anyway, if you have any credit history your details likely would have been leaked by Experian so these advertising places would just get your number from there. No chance of keeping your details secret in this modern world.

I only get spam from Vodacom.
Does not matter how many STOP messages or *135*997# or *135*whatever they dream up# is send, they just keep on sending spam SMSs.

Yep, same. I also used the settings in their app to attempt to turn it off, but no change.

What about using a whistle when answering!! Ring those 'computer' ears!!

Truecaller has been blocking all my spam calls so been really happy with it. But I did have to move back to Android (for this very reason) as Truecaller could not manage the iPhone dialler and spam calls kept coming through. As others mentioned though Vodacom still gets through with tons of SMS Messages, despite me opting out.

One odd thing though is the pricing mentioned in the article is:
  • Truecaller Premium Connect — R19.99 per month / R99.99 per year
Yet I pay R504 per annum. Wondering if it is because my Google account is a US one? Ouch!

I’m on the R99/year plan (ZA Apple accnt) and these are my upgrade options
