:D ... Yeehaw !!! Someone has had a true Broadband experience .... pure bliss eh ;) !!! .... my personal best is 7.7 GB down ... this month I only did 6.7 GB I manually stopped cause I only got 1.5 GB of space left and was going to work. As soon as I get my 200GB HDD, you can bet your boots I will be in the challenge :D ...

hoping to get that www.axxes.co.za 20GB account!!!

how???
do you just download as much as you want then pray your not capped???,i'll try that later in the month for obvious reasons... :D

Nope,

If you are on 3GB.

When you are very near your cap:

1.) Reboot your modem to update your usage plus refresh your IP. Then start downloading like MaD (excuse the pun).
2.) DO NOT disconnect for as long as possible.
3.) If you time it right, you can download for 2 days straight before Telkom catches up to you!!

G'luck!!!

:)

WOW - now that is one heck of a record ! Almost 4x the CAP.

:D

My best is 7.48 - I'm going to have to try and get to 9 and work from there !

Possibly will d/l the latest Suse DVD and a whole bunch of pr0n :D

The 2 day "trick" is something I noticed as well - I think it's more like 36 hours, impossible to confirm - I do know that last month I started downloading at 8am on the 30th and went right through to just before 12pm on the 31st and didn't hit my cap. I had got to an almost perfect 3gig before that - 2.98 :)

Possibly you could disconnect on the 3rd last day of the month at 11.59pm and reconnect at 0.01am on the 2nd last day and see if you can get right through to 11.59pm on the last day ?

Anyway, this superceeds the old "trick" of 24 hours - at least if you have Hellkom for an ISP.

Well done...so much for the average 2.2GB :D...or did Telkom just monitor to the 2nd last day of the month to show ICASA 'the average monthly usage'

Hehe, nice work, I must say, I made use of a team effort and we put 550GB of traffic on an Telkom account. That was before they limited sessions. The good old days. :)

Yep, I don't think the modem reset or reboot is necessary ... well as far as I'm concerned ... I've never had to restart my modem ...and I think it's almost 48Hrs ..

welkom

how do you refresh your IP, sorry i am new to adsl

Ignore my feeble attempts at correctly describing ADSL technology.

All I mean by rebooting/refreshing, is that each time I switch my modem on and off, it requests a new IP from the ADSL servers (isp/telkom). Most o fthe times you get the same IP again. But your usage will also be updated.

Remember, they don't keep track of your usage real time, they only update your usage stats each time you disconnect.

:)

Hope that helps

I hit 7.5 gigs on the weekend :D

This is going to become a monthy practice, I think. This crap about "3 gigs is enough because most users don't hit their cap" has gotta come to an end. I wonder what we could do to those stats if all of us pumped our connections a day or 2 before month end or cap. We could show telblow exactly how much bandwidth WE need.. :D

I have been wanting to try Linux for a while now so on the 27th I will begin downloading every distro I can find....

/me mutters and wonders how the hell anyone can ever use more than 1 gig a month. Unless you're a gamer. Then you're allowed another 2 gigs :P I am such a n00b its frightening.

But seriously, the entire contents of my HDD is smaller than what you guys are using in a month. Am I like missing the good stuff or something here?? Serious question, btw.
