AR Drone - Such a cool toy!

I still need to get around to building one of these. Adding GPS and WIFI control to it is pretty damn simple. The bit that isn't, is actually making it fly and getting the programming on the motors right. I foresee a LOT of crashes before I get everything sorted. It would of course also require a compass and a gyroscope for automatic stabilization. Again, I foresee a couple of crashes before I get that sorted. Going to be a fun build when I get around to it!

M'very good friend bought himself one as his Xmas prezzie ..to himself. And yes, he loves it.

I doubt it would carry any weight though, just for a start those wee props won't be able to lift much more than its full weight with the bumper on. And then there's the pesky ultrasound transducers underneath, I somehow don't see the machine coping with getting garbage off those too well...

As to flying the damn thing? ...hoo-boy, THAT gets interesting! ;D

I give you DIY Drones ..ohhh baby! :D Or, better yet- SIX-way love : hexacopters! Or, for even more lifting power, go eight-way.. :p

I'd love to see a hack that allows the drone to have 3G. Can you imagine flying one of these around town from the comfort of your home!

Imagine trying to watch the video to see where you are going that is supplied over 3G :(
 
I was really keen on getting one, but I'm opting for getting this instead.
