Hi All

I thought I would post a short description of Archassalt.

Arcassault is a penetration testing Distribution built on Arch Linux. It is basically Arch with a whole bunch of pentesting, forensics and even development tools pre-installed. It can be downloaded as a liveDVD/LiveUSB or installed on a current arch linux install.

The installation media is a fat 4.7 Gb. I have used both methods of use of arch, and here are first impressions:

ArcAssault live USB:

Pros:

1. It boots in seconds
2. Has a large amount of tools.
3. Feels very lightweight and quick.

Possible Cons:

1. It ships with openbox, which makes it lightweight and fast, but for the people used to the usual KDE and gnome it might take some time getting used to.
2. Had some driver compatibility issues with notebook wifi drivers, however a external wifi adapter picked up with no issues.

Installed on an existing ArchLinux system:

The installation was straightforward, and you can use any desktop environment that you would like. Chances are you already sorted out any driver issues on your arch system, so that won't be a problem in this case.

Here is a link for anyone that would like to try it:

As with arch, it has a great wiki with a lot of info.

how does it compare to Kali ?

Tools wise, very well, it has most, possibly all of the tools that you have on Kali, with some extra developer tools as well. The one thing it is better at than Kali is speed, it runs faster than Kali, but this depends on your Desktop environment as well. Another thing is that it supports UEFI boot, which Kali does not.

It seems that this is a fork of BlackArch. Now the devs on the two teams are having a public flame war. This is one of the reasons I love the Linux world - it is not boring.

lol true, well not entirely a fork of blackArch, as blackArch is specifically aimed at being a very lightweight system.
