Are all 1000Mbps/100Mbps packages the same?

On Vumatel at the moment on 200Mbps/200Mbps and happy as a pig in doodoo.

I'm just browsing for fun around for 1000Mbps/100Mbps packages and it seems the 1000Mbps is only for local downloads?
Is this correct, or are there ISP's that offer greater than 200Mbps international?
 
We have it as a disclaimer in case we need to enforce it when abused or used for aggregation. But we haven't put any limits on as yet.

As PBCool mentioned most has a disclaimer in case of abuse where they will in force it but most ISPs like CISP, Afrihost, Websquad, Axxess does not enforce any limitations.

Also take not that TCP single threaded downloads will not be as fast when downloading from international destinations that are 160ms+ away. You are likely going to need to multi thread quite a bit to get line speed. Torrents will be a bunch of random reads and writes which will make en mechanical hard drive cry which might come across as being shaped or throttled.

I'm running CAT6 with a Gigabit switch in the entire house and my main machine runs NVME, so should be ok on the HDD side of things.
 
Just to piggy back on the thread, is 1000Mbps/100Mbps really better than a 200Mbps/200Mbps package?
 
I've been on 1000Mbps for a while now. Generally international speeds are very fast but of course not getting the full 1000Mbps (most i've pushed is 700 which is still fantastic).

I suffered for a while with slow speeds, bad 4K reliability on streaming and so forth. Turns out my R2000 1Gbps router just was not cut out for the job. I laid-out an insane R5k on some Netgear monstrosity and the different is clear - streaming works flawlessly now at 4k and my other devices are getting higher speeds too.

So if upgrading to 1000Mbps and you have a lot of home devices streaming, downloading or doing whatever they do i would consider a good router as well.
