I'm beginning to think they are!
What do you think?

Depends - which one do you have?

I have a stupid one i think, powerbook g4 - 1.67ghz/1gb ram - i can't run windows on it and i find that my sony vaio is a better alternative when i'm doing my web development work... i have dreamweaver on mac but just doesn't feel da same as good ol' pc (the display looks wierd) I'm looking at selling my current g4 and stepping it up to a macbook but as it is, i hardly make use of the damn think... all in all and truth be told, i'm still a noob with the whole apple os thing... (so go easy on me)...

Really? Dreamweaver runs incredibly well on my Powerbook, in fact just as well as on my macbook pro. Throw in another gb of ram and you'll notice a big improvement.

You cant run windows on it because it has a power pc cpu instead of the intel one. Virtual PC is available for it but, imo, its a dog.

Yes, they are overrated, people who own Macs tend to sniff their own farts. They are however vastly better than any Windows desktop. If you don't like your Powerbook, it's is unlikely that you'll like a Macbook. It's not for everyone so (ironically) go buy a Vaio and get ripped off.

For the slow kids I say ironically since the Vaio's are vastly more expense than a Mac and everyone complains about the price of Macs.

I thought that was hybrid owners? I must be missing out.

A Mac is just another computer if you are running windows on it IMO. If you are running Mac OSX then it's a different experience and not over-rated at all. I've had my Mac for 4 days now, it hasn't been shut down once, and it's still running perfectly. Everything just works. I tried installing my wireless printer. Click, install, print. 3 Seconds. On my windows laptop, I had to go in search of drivers (which download pathetically slowly from HP's website), then it was a 15 minute install and this incredibly long set up process which actually didn't work.

Simple, pretty, fast.

People buy Macs for different reasons and Apple know it. Some because "it looks cool/sexy", others because of OSX. Nowadays the processor is the same as any other PC and the build quality isn't great (China syndrome), so appearance and OSX come higher in the list of reasons. Running Windows is more of an asset than Apple would care to admit, so we are willing to ignore some 'oddities' which save Apple money (such as k*k graphics) and fork out a premium for a Mac.

I agree with the statement that everything just works, i've had no hassles whatsoever just the occassional annoynances here and there... the double tap for a right click is really a mess to get used to (especially if you use both a windows and mac often). The display is cool but when creating websites, everything tends to just look different on internet explorer. I found firefox terrible on leopard, got myself the Saft plugin and loving safari.

That's because IE has it's own interpretation of web standards, just like all the other browsers.

If you're a half decent web designer you'll test your sites on the four big browsers (IE, FF, Safari, Opera) and code it so that it works properly on all. Otherwise you can just as well write a desktop application for windows.

The problem is not so much on the code/site design, it's the display on screen. Mac OS seems to have some sort of anti-aliasing/font-rendering technology different to that of windows. Everything seems BOLDER! I downloaded a trial of iCab, that is the closest i came to an internet explorer view on leopard. Try test it with safari and you will see a big difference.

Try adjusting your font smoothing preferences. (System Prefs > Appearance)

And try adjusting the fonts the browsers use. The default on the mac is usually helvetica iirc.

hi bwana, still looks k@k
What screen resolution are you using?

How about posting a screen capture of particularly bad site to imageshack.us for us to have a look at?
