500 bucks for smart device.
Then 15 percent on fuel and checkers

Ok, I'm on platinum so don't get anything back for my smart device. Also as a single guy that doesn't cook I spend most at woolies.

So how do FNB fund this? It must come from your pocket in some way...

Refraining from in-branch and ATM transactions are heavily embedded in determining reward levels... Consider all the associated running cost savings with the above if we all conditioned to move away from traditional brick and mortar branches... Then, the credit card transactions we are enticed to use more of for better rewards, the 5% vendor fee (I think) is money FNB are making extra plus interest they accumulate, they only reward us 4% back in eBucks... This must be the tip of their elaborate scheme, not to mention the many clients who are swayed to join FNB because of rewards... Just a few reasons I can think of how they fund it..

Most food comes from woolies but all the other stuff comes from checkers.

How do you get R500 for the smart device, I don't get nothing for mine. Is it because I'm on Gold CC or something.

I don't jump through any hoops and earn R4.5k in Makro Vouchers every month and free 4mb uncapped adsl.

Only major change I did was to move my spending from my cheque card to my credit card but not spending any money I would not normally have spent. Credit card gets settled every month so no interest there.

What do you have to spend and where to earn that much in vouchers? I don't even see Makro vouchers to that amount in the ebucks shop. Only a 10% discount one for EB500.
For me to get R4000 in ebucks, I'll have to swipe R40k worth of groceries at Checkers....

What's the cap on earnings on PC. The limits are a bit low on platinum I'm tempted to move back.

Apparently my eBuck earnings are getting capped on Gold, so I need to upgrade to Platinum.

I spend about R8k at checkers, R5k on fuel, both of which gives me 15% back in eBucks. That makes up the bulk. Then there are other transactions on my card that also earns me eBucks.

My last eBucks earned was just under eB29 000. On level 5 I get 40% off Makro vouchers so bought 10xR500 for eB30 000.

I'd say it is completely worth it if you're on Platinum. My wife is stuck on level 1 with her Gold account and with her general low spending, it is not really jumping through all the hoops to get eBucks.

For me however, it makes total sense. I usually get back at minimum, R1200 back in eBucks. This is over and above the free uncapped internet I get from them.
Converted into vouchers (Woolies, Makro, Builders Warehouse, etc.), R1200 becomes R2000 due to the 40% discount. With the wide variety of vouchers available at 40% off, it leaves me enough options to buy stuff we need rather than just spending money cause we have the vouchers.

I do have to jump through a couple of hoops though, but I really don't mind due to the reward.
- My spending is now channeled completely through my credit card and no swiping with my cheque card anymore
- I only draw cash from a supermarket now... No more ATM transactions.
- Petrol is always paid with the credit card, never cash
- 90% of my monthly shopping is now done at Checkers due to the 15% earn rate and always paid for via credit card
- I opened a money market account with the minimum balance of R10k. This also then means that I utilise more of my overdraft, but because money comes and goes through the account, the interest paid is minimal (less than R100)

That's pretty much the only hoops I jump through and yes: Completely worth it.
This opinion might change if FNB screws things up in July during their annual price review.

I have stuck to my normal banking habits (Except for the withdrawing cash from tills) and the eBucks back pretty much covers bank charges plus gives you that little bit more.
Definitely worth it :)

On platinum I think the draw cash rule actually changed. I drew cash in December from an atm and none from cash@till, and it didn't affect my ebucks reward level at all. It was like only R500.

What I think is different for platinum now, is that you cash draw must be less than your swipes ect. I could ofcoarse be wrong and was lucky to get those points in December.
