Are higher revs better?

Except on long road then usage drops to as low aa 8l/100kms but reality is 12l/100kms:p

My kids absolutely love the OPC. Its a rare beast indeed.

Depends on the engine and type of induction.

But as was already said it's all about the torque curve and over-revving is often quite pointless.

Most cars peak torque would be between 3500 and 5500 revs.

Changing too early so that the engine stutters is also bad news but in that case we are talking less than 2000 rpm in most cases.

Stop trolling you trolls :). In seven and a half years of owning my OPC I have never topped up with oil outside of it being replaced at normal service intervals. Chew on that :D

Normal service interval isn't 500km you know :D

Probably about 4500 RPM. You can usually feel where the power band drops, change before then.

In an OPC, from over 3700 you are getting turbo surging in (depending on what gear you in and how aggressively you pushing the pedal). To hit 4500 RPM in every gear means you are travelling rather quickly. Not uber fast, but not saving you fuel either. Go to that RPM, you might as well keep foot off clutch for a little bit longer and experience the pleasure of the little pocket rocket that is the OPC.

If u dont own an OPC you have no basis for statement. If u own one u would know better. Ah well after 10 000kms in 6 months no oil changes.

You're getting something infinitely better soon, so it's ok to be honest about your Oupiel :)

You dont buy an OPC if u want to save fuel ;)

You guys know nothing about consumption ;-)
My car is averaging over 16l per 100. It's a two seater and I'm trying to be economical with it

Haha :). Actually, need to add a 1 before the 5 and then another zero at the end!

Funnily enough (I think I've mentioned it here before), I have a "warped" tappet cover that the dealer keeps on wanting to charge me R5000 to replace (as per service last week and the one a year ago). Will lose oil I'm told - and as I said before, I have white tiles on my garage floor and there is zero oil, plus, as above, I have never topped up oil bar services.

What you driving again? that's rather heavy - you got mods?

Check www.opcclub.co.za for tappet cover price. Dont think guys spent that much. And nobody mentioning oil leak as a common issue.

Stock standard slk32 amg.

Incidentally replacing 2 Tappet cover gaskets on my ml320 cost R500...

No, it's not the gaskets, it's the whole metal piece that covers the gaskets....heeee!

That's a a quick car - but that fuel bill is a bit high and it isn't as practical as I would like. But still, power is power and petrol-heads are petrol-heads :)

It's my toy ;-) the ml is the practical one.
Weird that the metal piece is warped. Never heard of that before.

Need to find 30k for a kleemann k1 kit for the slk. MOAR POWER!
